The Arcadia Police Department responded to 1007 calls for service from Sunday, Oct. 10 through Saturday, Oct. 16, of which 134 required formal investigations. Here is a summary report of the major incidents handled by the officers of the Arcadia Police Department during this period. (Listed in crime categories created by Arcadia’s Best).

Bicyclist runs red light; hit by car A bicycle versus auto accident occurred at the intersection of Las Tunas and El Monte around 12:44 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 10. A 20-year-old male bicyclist rode through a red light and was struck by a vehicle.  The bicyclist sustained head trauma and a laceration to his neck and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Indecent exposure at Holy Angels Church Units responded to Holy Angels Church, 370 Campus, around 4:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, in reference to an indecent exposure incident. Two female janitors found a male Caucasian, in his 40’s, sleeping on a bench inside the church. He exposed himself to the women when he was asked to leave. An area search was conducted, but the suspect was not found.

Two couples burglarize vehicles with sawed-off shotgun A traffic stop was conducted in the 700 block of West Fairview around 2:28 a.m. Monday, Oct. 11, for a cracked windshield. Two female and two male Hispanic occupants were contacted, and a concealed blade was found on one man and a sawed-off shotgun was found on the floorboard. Investigation revealed that the suspects were burglarizing vehicles, and a set of stolen golf clubs and computer equipment were recovered. The suspects, between 19 to 32 years of age, were taken into custody for auto burglary, receiving stolen property, and conspiracy to commit crime. One man was also charged with possession of a knife and the other man with possession of a weapon.

Husband pulls machete on his wife Shortly before 10 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 12, units responded to the 600 block of South Second in reference to a domestic dispute. The victim advised that during an altercation her husband slapped her on the side of her face and then pulled out a machete from the closet. Fearing for her safety, she fled the house and contacted police. A 31-year-old male Hispanic was located and arrested for inflicting corporal injury to spouse and an outstanding misdemeanor warrant.

13-year-old pulls knife on Dial-A-Ride The school resource officer was called to Foothill Middle School around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 13, regarding a student on campus with a knife. Investigation revealed that the 13-year-old male Hispanic student brought a knife to school and had brandished the weapon on a dial-a-ride bus on October 8. The boy was arrested and later cited and released.


Residential burglaries/thefts * Between 12:15 p.m. and 2:40 p.m. Monday, Oct. 11, a residential burglary occurred in the 2300 block of Ivyland. Unknown suspect(s) entered the home through an open window and stole Louis Vitton accessories, cash, and men’s watches. * A residential burglary occurred in the 700 block of Fairview between 8:25 a.m. and 1:20 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 13. Unknown suspect(s) pried open the kitchen door to gain entry into the home. Once inside, the suspect(s) ransacked the house and stole a laptop computer and a $1,900 bottle of whiskey. * Units were called to the 100 block of East Grandview on Thursday, Oct. 14, in reference to a residential burglary. The reporting party advised that he was driving by his daughter’s home that is under renovation and saw two male Asian suspects carrying a large appliance from the house and into a blue van. Further investigation revealed that the suspects stole a new stove, bathroom sink, and faucet for a loss of over $5,600.

Business theft * Around 9:42 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 10, officers detained a man by CVS Pharmacy, 188 West Las Tunas, for possibly stealing liquor from the store. The manager advised that two male African-American suspects were inside the store attempting to steal bottles of alcohol. The suspect’s vehicle was located and 15 bottles of stolen liquor were recovered. The 45-year-old suspect was taken into custody for commercial burglary, receiving stolen property, and felony parole violation. The second suspect was not located during an area search. * Two female Hispanic suspects were detained by Claire’s employees for theft around 6:15 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 12, at Westfield Santa Anita. They were seen selecting merchandise and then concealing them in their pockets and purses. Private persons’ arrests were made, and a 14 and 20-year-old subjects were taken into custody for commercial burglary. Additional stolen property from Sanrio was also recovered. * Shortly after 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 14, officers were dispatched to Abercrombie & Fitch regarding a theft that occurred on Oct. 7. The regional loss prevention manager was reviewing security video footage from the Arcadia store and discovered that two male Hispanic suspects removed numerous shirts from a display table around 2:00 p.m. One of the suspects returned several hours later and stole additional property. * Shortly after 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16. loss prevention personnel from JC Penney advised that they had detained a woman for theft. She took numerous jewelry items and baby clothing into a fitting room and then concealed them in store bags. A private person’s arrest was made, and a 39-year-old Hispanic was taken into custody for commercial burglary and receiving stolen property. When officers’ searched her vehicle, they found additional stolen property from Macy’s and a bag filled with numerous fashion jewelry items.

Unauthorized bank account transfers A victim came to the station around 11:10 a.m.Friday, Oct. 15, to file a grand theft report. She was reviewing her checking account information online and discovered unauthorized transfers from her account on Sept. 27-28 for a total loss of over $6,650.

Auto burglary and grand theft * An auto burglary occurred in the 2400 block of South Baldwin between 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15. Unknown suspect(s) smashed a passenger window and stole a purse containing currency, checks, and camera for a total reported loss of $1,260.
