Severe cold, rains and snow are expected to hit late Friday, with snow potentially dropping down to 500-foot level overnight Friday and Saturday.
The Arcadia Police Department posted this National Weather Service extreme cold weather advisory Thursday evening for the foothill communities:
Heavy precipitation will arrive in LA County late tomorrow afternoon, with maximum rates at ¼ to ½ inch per hour along the coast and in the valleys. Coldest air will be overhead at about 4 p.m. Saturday. Snow levels overnight Friday will drop to 1000-1500 feet and some convective showers could push snow down to 500 feet. The heaviest snow will be in the East San Gabriel Mountains at 12-22 inches. One to two feet above 4000 feet. Expect snow in the foothills. Minimal if any debris or mud flow, but minor urban flooding possible.
Isolated thunderstorms, small hail and graupel (pellets) possible. Very cold temps Saturday night; in the 30’s in the valleys.
