SANTA ANITA STABLE AREA TO RE-OPEN ON SEPT. 2 AS HORSEMEN PREPARE FOR 2016 AUTUMN MEET OPENER ON SEP

TWO-DAY BREEDERS’ CUP WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS ON NOV. 4 & 5 TO HIGHLIGHT 23-DAY STAND

ARCADIA, Calif. (Aug. 24, 2016)—Closed since mid-July, Santa Anita’s stable area will re-open on Friday, Sept. 2, as horsemen prepare for the track’s 2016 Autumn Meet opener on Sept. 30. With Santa Anita set to host the two-day Breeders’ Cup World Championships for a record ninth time on Nov. 4 & 5, stall space will be at a premium and horsemen will be able to train over a newly renovated main track and inner training oval.

Additionally, Santa Anita’s new turf course, which was installed during June and July, will be open for business on opening day as the Grade III Eddie D. Stakes, at 6 ½ furlongs down the hillside turf, will highlight the day’s racing.

“We’ve completed some maintenance projects in the stable area and our main track and turf course both look terrific,” said Rick Hammerle, Santa Anita’s Vice President of Racing. “I think people are excited about coming back and we’re looking forward to opening up on Sept. 30.”

First post time on Sept. 30 will be at 1 p.m. and first post on most weekends will be at 12:30 p.m. For more information on the upcoming Autumn Meet, including reserved seating, dining and Breeders’ Cup information, please visit santaanita.com, or contact the Breeders’ Cup Call Center at (859) 514-9428.
