For the period of Sunday, May 26th, through Saturday, June 1st, the Police Department responded to 908 calls for service of which 106 required formal investigations. The following is a summary report of the major incidents handled by the Department during this period.
Sunday, May 26:
1. Around 10:19 a.m., an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 400 block of South Old Ranch Road in reference to a suspicious circumstances report. The victim heard someone knock on her front door. When she looked out a backyard window, she observed an unknown Black male exiting her detached garage. As soon as the victim made eye contact with the suspect, he fled in an unknown direction. The suspect is described as approximately 20-years-old, 5’5” tall, average build, wearing a blue jacket with white stripes and black gloves.
2. Just after 2:50 p.m., an officer responded to CVS, 9952 Las Tunas Drive, in regards to a theft report. A female suspect concealed makeup products inside her purse and ran out of the store without making payment. She entered the rear seat of an awaiting suspect vehicle described as a gold colored four-door sedan. Video surveillance revealed the suspect is Hispanic, approximately 18-years-old, 5’4” tall, 150 lbs., with brown hair and brown eyes, wearing a leopard print long-sleeve shirt, and black pants.
Monday, May 27:
3. At approximately 11:00 a.m., an officer was dispatched to Margit Holakoui Florist, 1012 Northview Avenue, in regards to a commercial burglary report. Unknown suspect(s) made entry through an unlocked door or window, and removed cash from the cash register. The officer discovered that another business located across the street was also burglarized, possibly by the same suspects. No evidence was left behind.
4. Just before midnight, an officer observed a subject driving without a seat belt in the area of Baldwin Avenue and Duarte Road. Upon contact with the driver, the officer detected an odor of alcohol emitting from inside the vehicle. An investigation revealed the 25-year-old male driver of unknown race was under the influence with a blood alcohol level greater than 0.08 percent. The two passengers, a 27-year-old White male and 28-year-old Hispanic male, were also intoxicated and unable to care for themselves. All three suspects were arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.
Tuesday, May 28:
5. At about 2 p.m., an officer responded to the Arcadia Police Department front counter regarding a fraud report. The victim explained unknown suspect(s) stole her wallet from inside her purse while she was walking around the Westfield Santa Anita mall, 400 South Baldwin Avenue. Shortly after, the victim discovered the suspect(s) used her credit cards at a gas station in Whittier. No witnesses were located.
6. At roughly 6:10 p.m., an officer responded to LA Fitness, 1325 South Baldwin Avenue, in regards to a sexual battery report. The victim explained that while she was swimming laps, a male suspect approached her and grabbed her buttocks without her permission. The victim did not know the suspect and can identify him if seen again. The suspect is described as an Asian male, about 55-years-old, 5’6” tall, with a thin build and a bald head.
Wednesday, May 29:
7. At approximately 8:16 a.m., officers conducted an enforcement stop on a bicyclist for riding against traffic on Peck Road, near Live Oak Avenue. An investigation revealed the bicyclist was under the influence of a controlled substance. The 34-year-old Hispanic male was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.
8. Around 9:15 a.m., officers were dispatched to the area of Second Avenue and Alice Street regarding a vandalism report. Two 17-year-old males were observed writing graffiti on a phone booth with pens and sharp metal objects. The juveniles were arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.
Thursday, May 30:
9. At about 11:48 a.m., officers responded to Tony’s Liquor, 809 West Huntington Drive, in reference to an armed robbery that just occurred. A male subject entered the store holding a baseball bat and demanded money from the owner. Meanwhile, a delivery man observed the incident and pushed his dolly into the subject’s shins, causing him to run out of the store. The suspect entered an older model brown Honda and removed his mask as he fled the location. His license plate was recorded and he is described as Black with light complexion, approximately 20 to 25-years-old, and clean shaven with short curly hair. A short time later, the 19-year-old suspect was located in Duarte and arrested by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. An investigation revealed the suspect also robbed two locations in Monrovia and Temple City earlier in the morning.
10. Shortly after 10:40 p.m., an officer was dispatched to Quickly Cafe, 171 East Live Oak Avenue, in regards to a robbery that just occurred. As an employee was closing the cash register, an unknown male subject entered the store and demanded cash while pointing a gun at the victim’s face. The suspect fled with approximately $1,000. He is described as a White or Hispanic male, 6’1” tall, 160 lbs., possible brown eyes, wearing a dark colored hooded sweatshirt with the hood pulled over his head, a black and white bandana over his face, and grey sweatpants. Officers conducted an area check, but the suspect was not located. Further investigation is being conducted by the Detective Bureau.
Friday, May 31:
11. At about 3:57 p.m., an officer was dispatched to Hazel’s Hair Salon, 61 Alta Street, in regards to a theft report. Two Hispanic females got their hair styled and left without making payment. One of the employees discovered her purse had been stolen and believed the suspects took it. One fingerprint was lifted from a shampoo bottle which was handled by one of the suspects. Further investigation is being conducted by the Detective Bureau.
12. Just after 11:30 p.m., an officer was dispatched to an injury traffic collision on Baldwin Avenue, south of Harvard Drive. The driver of a red Mitsubishi was speeding, lost control of his vehicle, and collided into a curb and trees. Witnesses reported seeing the driver racing with another unknown vehicle. The driver and passenger were transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital for treatment.
Saturday, June 1:
13. At approximately 5:37 a.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for expired registration in the area of First Avenue and Huntington Drive. The officer discovered the driver had a suspended license, no proof of insurance, and an outstanding misdemeanor warrant. The 49-year-old Hispanic male was arrested, transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking, and his vehicle was impounded.
14. Around 2:03 p.m., an officer responded to a residence in the 300 block of West Camino Real Avenue in regards to a burglary report. Unknown suspect(s) entered an unlocked garage and fled undetected with a bicycle. No one reported seeing or hearing anything suspicious.
