Arcadia Police Department Weekly Activity Report – May 18-24

Calls for Service / Formal Investigations May 18-24 :       975 / 144 Total YTD :  21,305 / 2,600

For the period of Sunday, May 18th, through Saturday, May 24th, the Police Department responded to 975 calls for service of which 144 required formal investigations. The following is a summary report of the major incidents handled by the Department during this period.

Sunday, May 18:

1. Around 1:21 a.m., an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 2000 block of Lenta Lane regarding a strong-armed robbery that had just occurred. Upon returning home from work, the victim walked toward her front door carrying a bag of money from her family’s business when two unknown male suspects approached her from behind. The suspects forcefully grabbed the bag of money, causing the victim to fall to the ground and hit her head. The suspects fled southbound on Lenta Lane and no evidence was located. The victim declined medical treatment.

2. At approximately 9:33 p.m., an officer conducted an enforcement stop on a bicyclist for riding on the sidewalk in the 600 block of East Live Oak Avenue. A records check revealed the 50-year-old female had an outstanding misdemeanor warrant. She was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking. She was also charged with Bringing Drug Paraphernalia Inside a City Jail as a hypodermic needle was found inside her bra.

Monday, May 19:

3. Just after 4:15 p.m., an officer made consensual contact with two subjects at Extended Stay Hotel, 401 East Santa Clara Street. The officer discovered one subject, a 37-year-old female, was in possession of a methamphetamine pipe and the other subject, a 29-year-old female, had an outstanding felony warrant. Both subjects were arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

4. At about 6:35 p.m., an officer was conducting surveillance on two residences in the 1000 block of North First Avenue for possible marijuana grows. The officer made consensual contact with three subjects as they were seen leaving the property and detected a strong odor of marijuana emitting from their persons. Three subjects, a 23-year-old male, a 32-year old male, and a 48-year-old male, were arrested for Cultivating Marijuana and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking. After obtaining search warrants, Arcadia detectives confirmed that 1008 and 1012 North First Avenue were involved in the cultivation of marijuana. Further investigation is being conducted by the Detective Bureau.

Tuesday, May 20:

5. At approximately 12:13 a.m., an officer responded to the suspected marijuana grow houses in the 1000 block of North First Avenue regarding a suspicious person jumping over the fence. Officers conducted a traffic stop on the subject’s vehicle in the 300 block of West Huntington Drive shortly after he fled the location. An investigation revealed the subject went to the residence to assist his friend, one of the three arrestees on May 19th. A search of his vehicle revealed he was in possession of burglary tools and sap gloves. The 20-year-old male was arrested for the listed charges and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

6. Around 3:40 p.m., an officer was dispatched to a traffic accident in the area of Live Oak Avenue, east of El Monte Avenue. Party-1 collided into the front bumper of another vehicle as she attempted to make a right turn. An investigation revealed she failed to give the vehicle on her right the right-of-way after coming to a stop at the same time. No injuries were reported.

Wednesday, May 21:

7. Shortly before 1:00 a.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop on a bicyclist for riding on the sidewalk in the area of Huntington Drive and Centennial Way. The officer discovered the 44-year-old male had an outstanding misdemeanor warrant and was in possession of drug paraphernalia. He was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

8. At about 3:00 p.m., an officer was dispatched to J.N. Davis Roofing Co., 2 La Porte Street, regarding a fraud investigation. The company was alerted by a Wells Fargo branch in West Covina that a 21-year-old male subject was attempting to cash a company check for $900. An investigation revealed the subject had already cashed two checks totaling $1,500. This time around, the subject left his driver’s license behind. Further investigation is being conducted by the Detective Bureau.

Thursday, May 22:

9. At about 4:09 p.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for expired registration in the area of Baldwin Avenue and Huntington Drive. The officer discovered the 21-year-old female driver was displaying false registration tabs and was not wearing her seatbelt. She was cited in the field and released without incident.

10. At approximately 7:16 p.m., an officer was dispatched to Sports Chalet at the Westfield Santa Anita Mall, 400 South Baldwin Avenue, regarding a theft report. The suspect concealed a pair of football gloves inside his shorts and exited the store without making payment. The 14-year-old male was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

Friday, May 23:

11. Shortly after 7:00 p.m., an officer was dispatched to the Westfield Santa Anita mall, 400 South Baldwin Avenue, regarding a theft report. Mall security advised two males suspects stole a scooter from the Stars and Stripes Scooter Kiosk and were riding it around the mall. Both 18-year-old males were arrested for Grand Theft and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

12. At approximately 10:15 p.m., an officer made consensual contact with a male subject walking in front of Albertsons, 298 East Live Oak Avenue. The officer discovered the subject was under the influence of methamphetamine. He was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

Saturday, May 24:

13. Just after 00:40 a.m., an officer working a sobriety checkpoint at the intersection of Santa Anita Avenue and St. Joseph Street came into contact with a driver whose license was suspended. An investigation revealed the passenger, a 25-year-old female, was intoxicated and unable to care for herself. She was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking. The 27-year-old Black male driver was cited for the listed charge, released in the field without incident, and his vehicle was impounded.

14. At about 3:07 p.m., an officer responded to a residence in the 1000 block of Valencia Way regarding a possible fraud report. While the victim was conducting a yard sale, a male subject offered to buy her desk for $20. The subject provided the victim with a $100 bill and the victim gave him $80 in cash back. The subject explained he would return later to pick up the desk because he was driving a Mustang. Shortly after, another yard sale customer related to the victim that the same man asked her for change for a $100 bill, which she received after giving him five $20 bills. She showed the victim her bill and they discovered the serial numbers were the same. The victim took her bill to Wells Fargo, 211 East Foothill Boulevard, where it was confirmed to be fraudulent. Wells Fargo forwarded the bill to Secret Service for further investigation. The suspect is described as late twenties to early thirties, driving a newer model, Black convertible Mustang with a tan colored top.
