SANTA ANITA OFFERS NEW WAGERING OPTION

Yesterday, Santa Anita Park began operating 26 “Racing on Demand” machines in an area formerly containing the abandoned Horse Wizard games. In its simplest form, Racing on Demand is parimutuel wagering on old horse races. The bettor doesn’t know the exact date or the name of the horses before they place their bet, but they are given statistical data and betting odds, just like you get when placing a bet on live racing. Once the bet is entered, the bettor can watch the old race and see if they have won. Under CA law, this type of racing is classified the same as off track betting or live wagering, so no new approvals are needed, and Arcadia will receive the same 0.33% on every bet placed. The Racing on Demand software also runs on the exact same betting machines that are in use at the track. The hope is that these machines will become popular in between races and on non-racing dates to improve the overall handle at the track. With only 26 machines for now, we don’t expect to notice any change to our revenues now but may see some increases if they end up expanding the program substantially. Attached is an information sheet from Santa Anita explaining more about the new offering. Also, here is a news article:
