For the period of Sunday, December 30th, through Saturday, January 5th, the Police Department responded to 921 calls for service of which 101 required formal investigations. The following is a summary report of the major incidents handled by the Department during this period.

Sunday, December 30:

1. At approximately 2:01 p.m., officers responded to Sephora at the Westfield Santa Anita mall, 400 S. Baldwin Avenue, regarding a female suspect in custody for theft. The suspect concealed several perfume bottles inside a bag and exited the store without paying for the items. Further investigation revealed the suspect had been arrested the prior for shoplifting at the Westfield Shopping Town. The 22-year-old, Hispanic female was arrested for commercial burglary and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

2. At about 6:08 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 2000 block of Carolwood Drive in regard to a residential burglary. Officers discovered the suspect(s) entered through a shattered bathroom window, ransacked several rooms, and stole jewelry. There were no witnesses or surveillance cameras at the residence.

Monday, December 31:

3. Around 1:19 a.m., officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for swerving and speeding on Santa Anita Avenue near Huntington Drive. Upon contact with the driver, officers detected a strong odor of alcohol emitting from inside the vehicle. A subsequent investigation revealed the driver was under the influence of alcohol. The 60-year-old, Hispanic male was arrested for driving under the influence, and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

4. At about 10:47 a.m., an officer was dispatched to the Public Storage, 12340 Lower Azusa Road, in reference to a commercial burglary. Officers discovered that the suspect(s) broke into a storage unit and stole most of the items stored inside. Further investigation revealed that the padlock to the storage unit was cut open and replaced with another one. There were no witnesses or surveillance footage.

Tuesday, January 1:

5. At about 3:34 a.m., officers responded to the area of Norman Avenue and Second Avenue regarding a solo vehicle crash, in which the male driver fled the scene. During their investigation, officers contacted the driver walking westbound on Norman Avenue, and discovered he was under the influence of alcohol. Further investigation revealed that the suspect had stolen the vehicle. The 26-year-old, White male was arrested for drunk driving, vehicle theft, and was transported to the Arcadia City Jail for processing.

6. At approximately 7:19 p.m., an officer was dispatched to the 900 block of W. Huntington Drive regarding a possible assault with a deadly weapon. Investigation revealed that a male suspect held a knife to a male subject before he entered his vehicle and fled the scene. Officers contacted the suspect at the vehicle’s registered address and it was discovered that the incident was horseplay. During a consensual search of the residence officers discovered a dagger. The 18-year-old, Hispanic male was arrested for possession of a weapon and was transported to Arcadia City Jail for booking.

Wednesday, January 2:

7. Around 2:46 p.m., officers were dispatched to Dana Middle School, 1401 S. First Avenue, in reference to vandalism. Officers discovered that one of the school’s vending machines had been broken into and damaged. Investigation revealed that two metal hinges on the vending machine security door had been cut open and the coin box was stolen. There were no witnesses or surveillance cameras at the school.

8. At about 11:10 p.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for expired registration on E. Longden Road. During the investigation, the officer discovered the driver had a suspended license. The 57-year-old, Hispanic male was subsequently cited and his vehicle was left parked at the scene.

Thursday, January 3:

9. At approximately 12:36 p.m., an officer contacted a subject lying on the curb in the area of Live Oak Avenue and Bradford Avenue. Upon contact with the male subject, the officer smelled a strong odor of alcohol on his breath and noticed other objective symptoms of intoxication as well. The officer determined the 67-year-old, White male was unable to care for his safety and arrested him for public intoxication.

10. At about 10:30 p.m., officers responded to the 1500 block of N. Santa Anita Avenue regarding a non-injury traffic accident, in which one of the involved drivers fled the scene. Officers contacted the driver at his residence, and further investigation revealed he was under the influence of alcohol. The 48-year-old, Chinese male was arrested for drunk driving and was transported to the Arcadia City Jail for processing.

Friday, January 4:

11. Shortly after 9:00 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 000 block of Alta Street regarding a physical fight between an ex-husband and wife, in which the ex-wife was the aggressor. Investigation revealed that the ex-wife became upset, broke the ex-husband’s phone, and punched and scratched his face. The 40-year-old, Hispanic female was arrested for battery, and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

12. Around 5:03 p.m., officers responded to Foothill Federal Credit Union Bank, 30 S. First Avenue, regarding a robbery. Investigation revealed that two suspects entered the bank and demanded money from a teller. The teller gave the money to the suspects, and they fled the scene by foot. The suspects were described as a Black female, 25-30 years old, 5’06 ft., 180 lbs., and a Black male, around 30 years old, 6’0 ft., 200 lbs.

Saturday, January 5:

13. At about 5:23 a.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on Baldwin Avenue for a vehicle having a broken license plate lamp. A records check revealed the male driver had an outstanding warrant for his arrest. The 52-year-old, Hispanic male was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

14. At approximately 9:11 p.m., officers responded to Nordstrom at the Westfield Shopping Town, 400 S. Baldwin Avenue, regarding a female subject in custody for theft. The subject concealed earmuffs and a handbag inside her purse, and exited the store without paying. The 26-year-old, White female was arrested for commercial burglary and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.
