Arcadia Police Department Weekly Activity Report

Calls for Service Formal Investigations April 28 to May 4 1,015 114 Total Year to Date for 2013 17,230 2,093

For the period of Sunday, April 28th, through Saturday, May 4th, the Police Department responded to 1,015 calls for service of which 114 required formal investigations. The following is a summary report of the major incidents handled by the Department during this period.

Sunday, April 28:

  1. At about 1:17 a.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop on vehicle for a broken tail light on Live Oak Avenue, at El Monte Avenue. Upon contact with the driver, the officer detected an odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle. An investigation revealed the 16-year-old White male driver and two 16-year-old Hispanic female passengers were in possession of marijuana and beer. The subjects were cited in the field and released to a guardian.

  2. Shortly after 2:20 a.m., an officer attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle for reckless driving in the area of Santa Anita Avenue and Le Roy Avenue. The vehicle failed to yield and a pursuit was initiated; however, it was cancelled in El Monte due to unsafe driving conditions. Shortly after, El Monte Police located the vehicle and followed it a short distance before the suspect crashed into a tree. The 22-year-old Black male driver was arrested and transported to El Monte City Jail for booking. Officers discovered the vehicle was stolen and notified the registered owner who did not know it was missing.

Monday, April 29:

  1. At approximately 1:52 p.m., an officer responded to the area of Golden West Avenue and Coronado Drive regarding a suspicious subject. The officer made consensual contact with the subject and discovered he was in possession of drug paraphernalia. The 44-year-old Black male was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

  2. At about 3:30 p.m., an officer was dispatched to the 200 block of East Colorado Boulevard in regards to a residential burglary report. Unknown suspect(s) forced entry through the garage, ransacked the location, and fled with jewelry, camera equipment, and a computer monitor. No evidence was located and no one reported hearing or seeing anything suspicious.

Tuesday, April 30:

  1. Around 2:08 a.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for broken tail lights and the vehicle yielded in the City Hall parking lot, 240 West Huntington Drive. The driver provided false information; however, an investigation revealed she had a suspended license, expired registration, and was under the influence of alcohol. The 27-year-old Asian female was arrested, transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for medical clearance, and booked at the Arcadia City Jail.

  2. At approximately 5:22 p.m., an officer was dispatched to Motel 6, 225 Colorado Place, in regards to sounds of a fight. The officer discovered a female subject was struck in the face by her boyfriend after an argument. No medical assistance was needed. The 27-year-old Asian male was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

Wednesday, May 1:

  1. At about 7:18 a.m., an officer responded to the Arcadia Police Department front counter in regards to a fraud report. The victim explained he gave one of his workers a check payment for $30. He later discovered the worker forged the check and cashed it for $330. At the time of the report, the Hispanic male suspect was nowhere to be found.

  2. Just before 4:40 p.m., officers responded to the Nordstrom parking lot at the Santa Anita Mall, 400 South Baldwin Avenue, in reference to a subject being detained for lewd conduct. Mall security observed the subject performing lewd acts while inside his vehicle. The 30-year-old Asian male was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

Thursday, May 2:

  1. Shortly after 2:00 a.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for making an illegal u-turn at the intersection of Santa Clara Street and Huntington Drive. An investigation revealed the driver was under the influence of alcohol. The 25-year-old White female was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

  2. At roughly 8:00 a.m., an officer was dispatched to the 300 block of Coyle Avenue regarding a theft report. The victim explained a DirecTV technician was doing work on her television in her bedroom and after he left, she discovered her ring and necklace missing. The victim contacted DirecTV and a manager advised that the employee would be questioned.

Friday, May 3:

  1. At approximately 11:34 a.m., an officer responded to Creative Solutions, 11837 Goldring Road, in reference to a computer extortion report. Unknown suspect(s) hacked into the company’s computer, encrypted all of its sales information, and generated an unknown password. The hacker left a message on the server demanding $5,000 in return for the password to unlock the information. Further investigation is being conducted by the Detective Bureau.

  2. Around 8:05 p.m., an officer was dispatched to Sport Chalet at the Santa Anita Mall, 400 South Baldwin Avenue, in regards to a theft investigation. A suspect removed a knife from a tool kit, concealed the item inside his pants, and exited the store without making payment. A search of his shopping bag revealed additional stolen merchandise. The 21-year-old Hispanic male was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.

Saturday, May 4:

  1. Shortly after 10:30 a.m., a male juvenile was riding his bicycle east on Longden Avenue and was struck by a vehicle traveling northbound on El Monte Avenue, causing him to fall to the ground and scrape several areas of his body. An investigation revealed the juvenile ran the stop sign and the driver of the vehicle was unable to stop in time. The juvenile was transported to the Arcadia Methodist Hospital for treatment.

  2. Around 8:20 p.m., an officer responded to Sephora at the Santa Anita Mall, 400 South Baldwin Avenue, in regards to a theft report. A 32-year-old White female suspect concealed perfumes inside her purse and exited the store without making payment. A search of her property revealed she was in possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. She was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking.
