Orswell enters race against Chu

Arcadia resident Jack Orswell will formally announce his candidacy for the California 27th Congressional District this fall at the monthly Foothills Lincoln Club meeting Friday, Jan. 10. The position is currently held by Democrat Congresswoman Judy Chu. Orswell is a Republican who ran his first political campaign of any kind against Chu in the 2012 election and received 36% of the votes (nearly 87,000) to 64% (154,191) for Chu. He is also the chairman of the Arcadia Chamber of Commerce Government Affairs Forum.

“As a small business owner and a former FBI Agent, I believe that our government is no longer effectively serving the needs of the people. Congress is filled with career politicians who are influenced by corporate and union money, ignoring the voices of the people. Excessive, wasteful spending has produced a national debt that will be an enormous financial burden to our children and grandchildren. I believe that I can make a difference. With my leadership skills, my small business and government experience, and a strong desire to serve my community, I know that I can represent the people of the 27th District and build a better long-term future for our families and America.”

The 27th Congressional District includes Arcadia and extends from Pasadena and Altadena, south to Rosemead and Monterey Park, and east out to Claremont and the northern half of Upland. The district also includes a large portion of the Angeles National Forest.

Orswell, a former FBI Agent who owns a a small security business owner, raised his family in Arcadia and is an Arcadia reserve police officer.
