New Principals at Highland, Longley Elementary

Two Arcadia elementary schools have new principals this school year — Travis Long at Longley Way, and Tina Cunningham at Highland Oaks.

Long is a former assistant principal within the El Segundo Unified School District, and Cunningham who most recently worked as interim principal of the Garvey School District’s Temple Intermediate School.

“Ms. Cunningham and Mr. Long are great additions to our Arcadia Unified family and we are confident that they will continue the great work already happening at these schools,” said Board of Education Vice President Lori Phillipi. We look forward to starting the school year with experienced, qualified and enthusiastic leadership teams in place at all of our campuses.”

Travis Long


Long has a master’s degree in educational leadership from Point Loma University and began his career in education in 1998 as a substitute teacher in the Temple City Unified School District. Since that time, he has served as an elementary school teacher in Monrovia Unified, and as an English as a Second Language instructor for adults in Madrid, Spain and Matagalpa, Nicaragua before joining El Segundo Unified as an assistant principal.

Cunningham has a Master of Education degree in Language and Literacy Development from Azusa Pacific University and has nearly 20 years of experience in education. She started her career as a classroom teacher in the South Whittier School District in 1994 before moving to Temple City Unified, where she served as a classroom teacher, Beginning Teacher Support and Assessment support provider, curriculum coordinator, assistant principal and principal. Most recently, Cunningham worked as a curriculum coordinator and principal in the Garvey School District.
