The City and School District are sending out joint notices to the neighborhood around Hugo Reid Primary School to inform them about an upcoming change to Hugo Reid Park. The City park is adjacent to the Primary School and operates as the recreation area for the school. While we have not had any fencing in the playground or field area in the past, in recent years, there have been growing issues with vagrants and others wandering onto the site where they shouldn’t be while students are present. It is also the only school site in the community that is not fully secured during school hours. With these evolving safety concerns, we feel it is necessary to properly secure the area during school hours. Specifically, the School District will be installing a fence along the De Anza side of Hugo Reid Park, which will create a more secure and controlled environment for students. After school hours, the park will be re-opened for public use. The yellow line in the image below shows where the new fencing will go; a minor portion of the park along De Anza will remain open during school hours. In addition, the tennis courts on the west side of the property will remain open and accessible at all times.
