Mayor’s Breakfast April 8

Hall of Fame jockey Mike Smith, Emmy-winning TV series creator, writer and producer David Milch (“Hill Street Blues,” “NYPD Blue,” “Deadwood” ), and Carolyn Conley of HorseRacing Television (HRTV) will be the featured speakers at the annual Mayor’s Community Breakfast at 7:30 a.m. Thursday, April 8 at the FrontRunner Restaurant at Santa Anita Park.

This year the City is pleased to partner with Santa Anita Racetrack on its 75th anniversary season on the event that is a celebration of community spirit, inspiration and friendship. Breakfast will be the famed “Santa Anita Buffet.”

Tickets are $15 per person and must be purchased in advance.  The ticket price includes free parking and entry into Santa Anita Park. Contact the Mayor’s Office at 626-574-5403.

Milch, a summa cum laude graduate of Yale and a thoroughbred horse owner whose horses have won the 1992 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile and 2001 Breeders’ Cup Mile races, is currently working on a new drama series for HBO to be filmed at Santa Anita called “Luck,” based on the horse racing and gambling culture.

Smith’s illustrious career at Santa Anita includes last year’s exciting last-to-first Breeders’ Cup victory aboard Zenyatta and a starring role in the Animal Planet series “Jockeys.”

In addition to her work as TV host and reporter, Conley also wrote and produced “The Lost Years,” a documentary for HRTV chronicling the use of Santa Anita Park during World War II.  She will offer insight and background on Santa Anita’s illustrious history in Arcadia.“

“I am looking forward to hearing our speakers and to being able to put a slightly different spin on the festivities with a beautiful and unique venue and by providing a full buffet breakfast,” commented Arcadia Mayor John Wuo.
