Living with Coyotes

Wildfires, years of drought, and continued urban development, have all contributed to the increase of coyotes in our neighborhoods. Residential areas are appealing to coyotes because they provide a constant source of food and water.

To discourage coyotes from visiting your property, The Pasadena Humane Society & SPCA recommends:

Keep small pets inside, especially at dawn and dusk when coyotes are most active. Remove outdoor food sources, including pet food bowls, fallen fruit and unsecured trash cans. Water is as appealing as food. Remove water sources from your yard, including pet bowls and watering cans. Secure hiding places like a garage or shed and trim overgrown landscaping. If you see a coyote, do not walk or run towards it. If the the coyote approaches, make a loud noise to try to scare it away. Pick up small children and pets.
