Historical Society skit May 28

The Arcadia Historical Society will present its third skit in recent months at the General member dinner meeting on May 28 featuring volunteer Society board members playing characters portraying a time in American hsitory as written by Society Vice President Carol Libby.

The program at Prince Erik Hall at 2607 S. Santa Anita Avenue (behind Arcadia Congregational Church) will begin at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, May 28. with a short meeting agenda (details below), followed by the brief skit by the Arcadia Historical Society Players — Gene Glasco, Bev Street, Gil Stromsoe, Lee Shimmin, Charlene Wong, Karen Hou, Gail Marshall, Beth Costanza, and Scott Hettrick — after which dinner will be served.

Cost for the program is $40 per person. Please RSVP by Saturday, May 23 with check and mailed notice to:

The Society’s annual General Meeting agenda will include the annual presentation of the slate of officers and directors as proposed by the nominating committee and approved by the Board of Director for vote by Society members in good standing at the General Meeting May 28. That recommended slate includes:

  1. President: Karen Hou

  2. 1st Vice President: Carol Libby

  3. 2nd Vice President: Beverly Street

  4. Treasurer: Gil Stromsoe

  5. Corresponding/Recording Secretary: Charlene Wong

  6. other Board Directors: Jolene Cadenbach, , Beth Costanza, Gene Glasco, Scott Hettrick, Gail Marshall, and Lee Shimmin

Proposed ByLaws revisions to also be put before attending Society members in good standing for a vote May 28 are mostly an updating to reflect current operations and needs, including addition of identifying Standing Committees for Historical Markers and Thoroughbred Racing Walk of Champions, shifting the Friends of the Society from a Standing Committee to a stand-alone group; ceasing the category of Lifetime membership (current Lifetime members will continue to be honored); creating flexibility to term limits of Board Directors; creating a more relevant Ethics Policy; and cleaning up of outdated references to the Society’s former relationship with the City’s Museum prior to 2011.
