Once you get to know plant families it’s much easier identifying unknown plants. Join Arboretum botanist Frank McDonough for a one day immersive training camp that will teach you the skill of identifying the 10 most important plant families here at the Arboretum. With the knowledge gained from this one day intensive introduction you will be on your way to having a better understanding of the plants that inhabit our landscapes both wild and domestic.

LOW CARBON FOOTPRINT TREES Saturday, October 22; 10:00am – 12:00pm Instructor: Frank McDonough

$25 members; $35 per non-member (includes Arboretum admission) Reservations are preferred: Please call 626.821.4623 or pay at the door

Growing and maintaining trees here in Southern California can have a large carbon footprint if the trees use large amounts of water and fertilizer (both require energy here to bring them to the tree). What trees can you plant here that require little if any additional water and fertilizer in order to establish and grow? What trees truly fit in to our new low water paradigm (which ironically is the same as it was 300 years ago).
