Foley Citizen of Year

Vince Foley says Arcadia is the greatest community in the country and that everyone needs to chip in and do volunteer work to help keep it that way.

Foley’s comments came during his acceptance speech Thursday night, April 1, for being named this year’s Arcadia Citizen of the Year by the Arcadia Chamber of Commerce. (Story continues below following two-minute video highlights of Foley’s acceptance speech.)

The presentation is part of the Chamber’s annual installation of board directors and officers, with Helen Romero Shaw returning to the role of President this year to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of President-elect Sho Tay who was required by Chamber by-laws to step down while campaigning for City Council.

Foley praised organizations like the Arcadia Police Department and Los Angeles County Arboretum for embracing volunteers. Throughout the evening a video highlight of Foley’s showcase of the work he and others do for the Police Department’s VIPS program (Volunteers in Police Support) was shown on monitors, which you can see by clicking the previous link.

The elegant event that always attracts most of the prominent community leaders moved from its recent home of many years at the Community Center to the elegant Chandelier Room at Santa Anita Park.
