Fistfight with ex-boss

The Arcadia Police Department responded to 1007 calls for service from Sunday, Oct. 3 through Saturday, Oct. 9, of which 112 required formal investigations. Here is a summary report of the major incidents handled by the officers of the Arcadia Police Department during this period. (Listed in crime categories created by Arcadia’s Best).

Fistfight with former boss The victim came to the station around 12:42 p.m. Monday, Oct. 4, to report a battery. The victim observed a suspect by his vehicle and approached the suspect, which was known to him. The suspect was the victim’s former employer. The two engaged in a verbal argument that escalated into a physical fight.

Beaten in mall elevator Officers were dispatched to the Westfield Santa Anita parking lot around 10:21 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 9, in reference to a battery report. The victim stated he was approached by an acquaintance who said he needed to talk to him. The victim followed the suspect into an elevator. Once inside the elevator, the suspect began hitting the victim with a closed fist in the head and face.

Residential burglaries/thefts * A grand theft occurred between Sept. 29, 2010, and Oct. 5, 2010, in the 1100 block of Louis Street. Unknown suspect(s) entered the house by unknown means and stole several items of jewelry from the bathroom. The total amount of property stolen was in excess of $10,000. * Officers respond to an audible alarm in the 100 block of El Dorado Street on Thursday. Oct. 7. Upon arrival the officers saw that the front door had been forced open and the master bedroom had been ransacked. An unknown amount of property had been taken.

Business theft * Officers responded to 11621 Clark Street, Total Office Solutions, Inc., on Friday, Oct. 8, regarding a commercial burglary. The unknown suspect(s) entered the business through the front door by unknown means, since there was no damage or signs of forced entry. The suspect took various specialty computer tools, a vacuum cleaner and a portable stereo. * Officers were dispatched to Westfield Shopping Center on Saturday, Oct. 9, where JC Penney Loss Prevention Officers were holding a female adult in custody for theft. The suspect was seen and caught on video surveillance cameras selecting numerous items from the sales rack and concealing them in her purse and pants pockets then walking out of the store without paying for the items. The total amount of stolen items was $472.99. The suspect was taken into custody and booked for grand theft.

Auto burglary and grand theft * Officer’s responded Sunday, Oct. 3, to the 900 block of West Duarte Road regarding a vehicle burglary. At approximately 7:30 p.m. the victim parked his car in his detached garage, secured the windows but left the doors unlocked, did not set the car alarm and did not close the rolling garage door. Taken was a GPS, a bottle of cologne, a pair of sunglasses and an I-Phone charger. * Officers responded to the 100 block of West Leroy Ave. on Sunday, Oct. 3, regarding a grand theft. The victim’s vehicle was parked in the driveway and was left unlocked. Stolen was a digital camera, a GPS and an Apple Ipod. The total loss was $900.00. * An auto burglary occurred in the 900 block of West Huntington Dr. between, 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 4, 2010, and 8:30 a.m. on October 5, 2010. Unknown suspect(s) smashed the front right-side window with an unknown blunt object and stole the victims GPS.

Vandalism * Officers were dispatched to 40 N. First Ave., Yvonne’s Hair Studio, on Tuesday, Oct. 5, regarding a vandalism investigation. The victim arrived at her hair studio around 9 a.m. and found that her business sign next to the main entrance had been vandalized with some type of abrasive material. No suspects were seen. * Officers responded to 12 N. First Street, The Frame House, on Wednesday, Oct. 6, regarding a vandalism investigation. Unknown suspect(s) inscribed several words on the victim’s business windows using an unknown hard object and white paint. Officers at the scene noticed five other businesses on the same block had also been vandalized.

Drugs and alcohol * A traffic stop for an equipment violation was made on Camino Real Avenue around 11:43 p.m. Friday. Oct. 8. When contact was made with the driver, the officer noticed the driver’s eyes were bloodshot and red and he also noticed the odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle. During a consensual search of the vehicle, the officer found a green plastic bottle on the front passenger floorboard. Inside the bottle was a green leafy substance. The driver was cited and released at the scene.

Insufficient funds and invalid checks * Officers were dispatched to the 200 block of Colorado Blvd. on Monday, Oct. 4, regarding a check written with insufficient funds complaint. Between Aug. 3, 2010 and Sept 9, 2010, the victim worked for JKC Productions LLC. On Sept. 2, 2010, the victim was given a Bank of America check for $1,200.00 for his services. On Sept. 3, 2010, the victim attempted to cash the check but could not due to insufficient funds. He later finds out that the account has been closed and the company is no longer in business. * On Oct. 7, 2010, around 9:40 a.m. the First Bank branch manager came to the station to file a fraud report. On Sept. 21, 2010, a known suspect came to the bank and deposited a check in the amount of $2,953.20. The check later returned as an altered/fictitious check. First Bank has attempted to reach the suspect regarding the fraudulent check but has been unsuccessful.
