Fire Department Weekly Report - week of September 25 – October 1, 2022

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of September 25 – October 1, 2022. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:


Sunday, September 25 At 10:16 a.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to the 200 block of East Huntington Drive for a pediatric trauma. Fire crews arrived to find an 8-year-old male with a laceration to the lower leg. Paramedics assessed, treated, and bandaged the patient. The patient was released to the care of his parents. Monday, September 26 At 7:35 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to the 200 block of Colorado Place for a person down. Fire crews arrived to find a 59-year-old male with an altered level of consciousness. Paramedics initiated advanced life support measures including a 12-lead electrocardiogram, blood glucose testing, intravenous access, and medications to stabilize the patient. The patient was transported to USC Arcadia Hospital for further care and evaluation. Tuesday, September 27 At 6:37 p.m., Engine 105, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 105, and Battalion 105 responded to a vehicle accident in the 1800 block of South First Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a single vehicle resting on its side, after hitting a parked car. Fire personnel stabilized the vehicle and used the Hurst hydraulic tools to cut and roll the roof down, gaining access to the victim. Paramedics evaluated a 79-year-old male who was suffering from a laceration to his head and body discomfort. The patient received advanced life support including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, glucose check, and intravenous access. The patient was transported to Huntington Health Trauma Center for further evaluation and treatment.

Wednesday, September 28 At 11:09 a.m., Engine 105 responded to a report of electrical wires down in the 1000 block of Arcadia Avenue. Upon arrival, there were wires laying across the street and blocking the path of travel. Fire personnel mitigated the problem by cutting the wires, moving them away from the street, and making the proper notifications. There was no remaining electrical hazard after fire personnel left the scene.

Thursday, September 29 At 6:03 p.m., Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 105, and Battalion 105 responded to a second alarm fire in the 100 block of Los Robles Avenue with units from Pasadena, Glendale, and San Marino Fire Departments. Upon arrival, Truck 105 was assigned to Division 1 and assisted with extinguishment, salvage, and overhaul operations. Fire personnel extinguished the fire and opened the ceiling of the business to expose the affected area. The fire was contained to the unit of origin. Friday, September 30 At 10:47 p.m., Engine 105 responded to a report of a fire sprinkler system activation in the 200 block of East Santa Clara Street. Upon arrival, it appeared that the inspector’s test valve was tampered with and there was a water flowing from the end of the valve. Fire personnel shut down the test valve and the water leak stopped. Fire personnel then reset the fire alarm system and confirmed with Verdugo Dispatch that the fire alarm was reset.

Saturday, October 1

At 2:30 p.m., Engine 106, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 106, and Battalion 105 responded to a report of a two-vehicle collision with a person trapped in the 400 block of West Duarte Road. Upon arrival, there were two vehicles that were involved in a traffic collision but there were no trapped patients. Fire personnel performed a full medical evaluation of two patients and one patient was transported to USC Arcadia Hospital.


Personnel Update/Training During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted the assessment center for our Battalion Chief’s exam. Candidates took part in an incident command simulation exercise, structured oral interview, and inbasket exercise.
