Fire Department Weekly Report - week of September 19 – 25, 2021.

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of September 19 – 25, 2021. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:

Sunday, September 19 At 3:00 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to the 200 block of Huntington Drive. Fire crews found a 52-year-old female patient experiencing chest pain. Paramedics initiated advanced life support measures including electrocardiogram, blood glucose testing, intravenous access, and medications. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital. Monday, September 20 At 10:19 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the first block of East Huntington Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 55-year- old male patient experiencing an altered level of consciousness. The patient received advanced life support at the scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, glucose check, and intravenous access. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Tuesday, September 21 At 7:01 p.m., Engine 105 responded to a refuge fire in the 200 block of West Las Flores Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a residential recycling container burning. Fire personnel extinguished the fire using a 100-feet fire hose with water foam solution and contained the fire to the area of origin.


Wednesday, September 22 At 8:04 a.m., Engine 105 responded to a vehicle fire in the 200 block of South Santa Anita Avenue. Upon arrival, personnel found a vehicle smoking from the engine compartment. Fire crews made access to the engine compartment and found the engine area actively burning. After extinguishing the fire, personnel investigated and determined the vehicle had existing mechanical issues which led to the engine burning. The incident was released to Arcadia Police Department. Thursday, September 23 At 2:40 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to the 100 block of East Huntington Drive for a person down. Fire crews arrived and found a 36-year-old male patient experiencing chest pain. Paramedics initiated advanced life support measures including a 12-lead electrocardiogram, blood glucose testing, intravenous access, and medications. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further care and evaluation.

Friday, September 24 At 1:09 a.m., Engine 105, Engine 106, Engine 107, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 105, and Battalion 105 responded to the 600 block of North Santa Anita Avenue for a structure fire. Fire units arrived and found a commercial structure charged with smoke. Firefighters initiated a coordinated interior attack with multiple hose lines. A second alarm was declared, and this allowed additional units from neighboring agencies to respond and assist. The fire was contained to the building of origin. One firefighter was injured during the firefight and was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital.

Saturday, September 25 At 11:12 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a reported traffic collision at the intersection of Colorado Boulevard and Vaquero Road. Fire crews arrived and found a two-vehicle traffic collision with no injuries. A nearby fire hydrant had been hit and sheared off during the accident. Fire crews located the water valve and shut down the flowing hydrant.

Strike Team Activity During this reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department (AFD) had one Engine Company and one Battalion Chief deployed as part of Strike Team XLC 1204A to the Windy Fire in the Sequoia National Forest. AFD also had one member assigned as a Fireline EMT on River Complex Fire in the Klamath National Forest. Training During the reporting period, Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 384 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre- Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
