Fire Department Weekly Report - week of September 18 – 24, 2022

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of September 18 – 24, 2022. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:
Sunday, September 18 At 2:24 p.m., Engine 105 responded to a report of a vegetation fire in the 100 block of Longden Avenue. Upon arrival, there was approximately 800 square feet of burned vegetation next to the road. Fire personnel utilized a 1.5” hose line with foam to extinguish the fire. Wildland hand tools were utilized to mop up the area. The fire was contained to the area of origin and no structures were damaged in the incident.

Monday, September 19 At 5:00 p.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a reported drowning victim in the 1000 block of Burnell Oaks Lane. Firefighters found a 67-year-old male in cardiac arrest after being pulled out of a swimming pool. Paramedics evaluated the patient and sadly the patient did not survive. Tuesday, September 20 At 6:49 p.m., USAR 106 and Battalion 105 responded to assist with an animal rescue in the city of Pasadena. Multiple agencies responded to assist as this was reported to be an older blind dog stuck in a confined space 14 feet below grade. Arcadia units assisted in a support function and the dog was quickly rescued and reunited with the owner.

Wednesday, September 21 At 8:48 a.m., Engine 106 and Sierra Madre Rescue Ambulance 41 responded to a medical assist in the 200 block of West Huntington Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 58-year-old male who was suffering from shortness of breath. The patient received advanced life support including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, glucose check, and intravenous access. The patient was transported to USC Arcadia Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Thursday, September 22 At 2:53 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 500 block of Monte Vista Road. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 36-year-old male who was suffering from wrist pain after a fall. The patient received advanced life support including cardiac monitoring, glucose check, and intravenous access with pain medication. The patient was transported to Huntington Health for further evaluation and treatment Friday, September 23 At 5:00 p.m., Engine 107 responded with Sierra Madre Engine 41 and Rescue Ambulance 41 to a reported vegetation fire in the city of Sierra Madre. Fire crews arrived and reported a large vegetation fire on the city border threatening a home on Old Oak Lane. The fire was quickly suppressed, no injuries and no structural damage occurred.

Saturday, September 24 At 10:39 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a report of a medical incident at 400 South Baldwin Avenue. Upon arrival, there was a 90-year-old patient with a complaint of back pain and multiple skin tears after a mechanical trip and fall down an escalator. Fire personnel performed a full medical evaluation which included intravenous access, blood pressure check, and electrocardiogram. The patient was transported to USC Arcadia Hospital for further treatment Personnel Update During the reporting period, fire personnel continued to train with our nine probationary firefighters getting them ready for the next round of skills testing in October. Our skills tests consist of hose lays, ladder evolutions, and rope rescue evolutions. Probationary Firefighters also need to know the location and use of all the equipment carried on the fire engines, ladder trucks, and rescue ambulances.
