Fire Department Weekly Report -week of September 12 – 18, 2021

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of September 12 – 18, 2021. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:

Sunday, September 12 At 12:38 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a traffic collision at the intersection of Duarte Road and Baldwin Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find a two- vehicle traffic collision with significant front-end damage. All involved parties were quickly assessed, and two patients were treated. One patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital and the other patient was released on scene. Monday, September 13 At 5:13 p.m., Engine 105 was dispatched to a vehicle fire in the 200 block of Live Oak Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find a fire in the bed of a pick-up truck. The cargo on fire included welding equipment that had recently been utilized which caused the ignition of other items in the bed of the truck. The fire damage was minimized to the cargo in the vehicle, and no one was injured during this incident. Tuesday, September 14 At 10:44 a.m., Truck 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 assisted units from the San Gabriel Fire Department with a structure fire in the 500 block of East Valley Boulevard in San Gabriel. Upon arrival, fire units found smoke and fire within the parapet of a structure. Fire personnel aggressively extinguished the fire and contained the fire to the area of origin. The incident was released to the San Gabriel Fire Department. Wednesday, September 15 At 2:28 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist at the intersection of Live Oak Avenue and Santa Anita Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 40-year-old male patient experiencing an altered level of consciousness. The patient received advanced life support including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, glucose check, and intravenous access. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Thursday, September 16 At 2:02 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to the 100 block of East Huntington Drive on a medical call. Fire crews arrived to find a 30-year-old male patient who had a syncopal episode. Paramedics assessed the patient and performed advanced life support measures including cardiac monitoring, intravenous therapy, orthostatic testing, and glucose level monitoring. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Friday, September 17 At 11:24 a.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 1000 block of San Carlos Road. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 90-year-old male patient suffering from back pain after a trip and fall. The patient received advanced life support including 12-lead cardiac monitoring and glucose check. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Saturday, September 18 At 4:05 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to the 800 block of Duarte Road. Fire crews arrived to find a 72-year-old male patient who was unconscious and unresponsive. Paramedics initiated advanced life support measures including electrocardiogram, blood glucose testing, intravenous fluids, and medications. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Strike Team Activity During the reporting period, OES Engine 1613 returned to Arcadia from its two-week deployment. On September 17 at 3:30 a.m., Engine 106 was deployed with a battalion chief as Strike Team Leader Trainee to the Windy Incident in the Sequoia National Forest as part of Strike Team 1204A. Their primary assignments have been structure protection and mop up operations. Training During the reporting period, Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 334 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre- Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
