Fire Department Weekly Report - week of October 9 - 15, 2022

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of October 9 - 15, 2022. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:

Sunday, October 9 At 6:45 p.m., Engine 105 and Sierra Madre Rescue Ambulance 41 responded to a medical assist in the 600 block of Sunset Boulevard. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 67-year-old male experiencing a diabetic episode. The patient received advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and blood glucose level monitoring. The patient was transported to USC Arcadia Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Monday, October 10 At 11:21 a.m., Engine 105 and Sierra Madre Rescue Ambulance 41 responded to a medical call in the 2800 block of Warren Way. Fire personnel arrived to find an elderly male suffering from facial and head trauma after a fall. The patient received advanced life support measures on scene, including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, blood glucose level monitoring, and intravenous access. The patient was transported to Huntington Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Tuesday, October 11 At 1:37 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 200 block of Pamela Road. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated an elderly male suffering shortness of breath. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access and 12-lead cardiac monitoring. The patient was transported to USC Arcadia Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Wednesday, October 12 At 3:57 a.m., Engine 106 and units from Monrovia Fire Department responded to a multi- vehicle traffic collision on the eastbound 210 Freeway at Myrtle Avenue. Firefighters arrived to find two patients with traumatic injuries. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous access, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, and would care. The patients were transported to USC Arcadia Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Thursday, October 13 At 3:14 p.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a traffic collision at the intersection of East Foothill Boulevard and North Second Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a 62-year-old female with arm and facial pain. Paramedics provided basic life support measures on scene and transported the patient to USC Arcadia Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Friday, October 14 At 5:59 p.m., Engine 106 and Truck 105 responded to an elevator rescue in the 400 block of South Baldwin Avenue. Firefighters arrived to find an elevator stalled on the first floor with several occupants trapped inside. Fire personnel located the elevator control room and reset the system, allowing the elevator doors to open. The occupants were evaluated and there were no reported injuries. The elevator was placed out of service until repairs could be made.

Saturday, October 15 At 8:22 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 200 block of West Huntington Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 29-year- old male with head pain after falling off a horse. The patient received advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and blood glucose level monitoring. The patient was transported to Huntington Memorial Trauma Center for further evaluation and treatment. Personnel Update Three of our probationary firefighters completed their three-month examination with our three newest firefighters preparing for their upcoming three-month examination. The Training Division along with our crews remain busy preparing and teaching our newest personnel. The Fire Department also completed its Battalion Chief examination and will be promoting one Fire Captain to that position soon. This week was Fire Prevention Week and our crews were out visiting different schools. Along with teaching important fire safety messages, fire personnel spread the message about planning a home escape plan. The theme was, “Fire won’t wait. Plan your escape!”

Training During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 426 hours of training. Some of the subjects include: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
