Fire Department Weekly Report - week of October 24 – 30, 2021

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of October 24 – 30, 2021. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:

Sunday, October 24 At 5:20 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to the intersection of Santa Anita Avenue and Campus Drive for a reported person experiencing an altered level of consciousness. Fire crews arrived to find a 55-year-old male patient experiencing a diabetic episode. Paramedics initiated advanced life support treatments including intravenous access, fluids, and medications. The patient’s family member declinedadditional care and support and chose to seek care with a private physician. Monday, October 25 At 9:57 a.m., Engine 107 and Truck 105 responded to a reported person trapped in a stalled elevator in the 100 block of South First Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find two occupants trapped inside the elevator with no medical complaints. Fire crews utilized specialized elevator rescue tools to open the elevator doors to release the occupants. The occupants left the scene unharmed, and the elevator was placed out of service. Tuesday, October 26 At 8:04 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 700 block of Duarte Road. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated an 85-year-old female patient who was experiencing an altered level of consciousness. The patient received advanced life support including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and blood glucose check. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Wednesday, October 27 At 3:42 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 100 block of Diamond Street. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 51-year-old female patient who was experiencing abdominal pain and nausea. The patient received advanced life support including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and blood glucose monitoring. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Thursday, October 28 At 7:06 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a report of an outside fire at the corner of First Avenue and Santa Clara Street. Upon further investigation, fire crews found a plastic bin in a shopping cart that was burned through. The fire was extinguished with a fire extinguisher. Arcadia Police Department remained on scene with the responsible party. There were no injuries associated with this incident. Friday, October 29 At 5:53 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical incident in the 400 block of Rolyn Place. Upon arrival, there were two patients that needed transport and evaluation. The first patient was a 36-year-old female that was weak and dizzy after giving birth. The patient received advanced life support measures that included intravenous therapy, 12-lead electrocardiogram, and all vitals were taken. The second patient was a 3-day-old male with jaundice and fever. Both patients were transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Saturday, October 30 At 11:58 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to the 2500 block of Lee Avenue for an assault victim. Fire crews arrived to find two assault victims and requested an additional rescue ambulance. Paramedics assessed, treated, and transported both victims to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Training During the reporting period, Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 384 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre- Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
