Fire Department Weekly Report - week of October 16 – 22, 2022

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of October 16 – 22, 2022. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:

Sunday, October 16 At 10:36 a.m., Truck 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 5400 block of Peck Road. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 30-year-old female who was suffering from anxiety. The patient received advanced life support including 12- lead cardiac monitoring and intravenous access. The patient was transported to USC Arcadia Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Monday, October 17 At 3:50 p.m., Engine 105, Truck 101, Engine 102, Rescue Ambulance 105, Hazardous Materials Units from Burbank and Glendale Fire Departments, and Battalion 105 responded to a hazardous material incident in the 12000 block of Lower Azusa Road. Upon arrival, fire crews discovered a material that was off gassing in the hazardous materials area of the business. Fire crews evacuated the building and verified that there were no employees with inhalation injuries. The ventilation system was turned on to clear the atmosphere and the materials were removed from the building. There were no injuries associated with this incident.

Tuesday, October 18 At 10:57 a.m., Truck 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a report of a medical incident in the 2100 block of South Santa Anita Avenue. Upon arrival, there was a 78- year-old female with a chief complaint of having a syncopal episode Wednesday, October 19 At 8:53 p.m., Engine 105 and Monrovia Engine 102 were dispatched for a reported outside fire in the 5400 block of Peck Road. Firefighters found a vegetation fire burning inside of a conservation park area. Firefighters were able to quickly contain the fire from propagating. The cause of this fire remains under investigation. Thursday, October 20 At 5:47 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 41 responded to the intersection of Huntington Drive and Old Ranch Road for a reported auto versus pedestrian accident. Firefighters arrived to find a 20-year-old male down on the street. Paramedics evaluated the patient, but the patient refused all further care, treatment, or transport. Friday, October 21 At 5:40 p.m., Engine 105 responded to the 1400 block of First Avenue for a fire alarm activation. Fire personnel arrived to find no smoke nor fire, but a fog machine utilized during a dance recital that activated the fire alarm. The fog was cleared out of the area, the fire alarm was reset, and the dance recital continued. . The patient received a full medical evaluation which included a 12-lead electrocardiogram, vital signs, and intravenous therapy. The patient was transported to San Gabriel Valley Medical Center for medical treatment.

Saturday, October 22 At 2:31 p.m., Engine 106 and Los Angeles County Engine 47 responded to a reported outside fire in the 2600 block of Baldwin Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find a rubbish fire inside of a dumpster enclosure. Fire crews extinguished the fire with no exposures damaged. The cause of this fire remains under investigation. Personnel Update Fire personnel continue to prepare our three newest firefighters for their upcoming three- month evaluation. Additionally, Training Captain Olivarez completed the in-service and familiarization training of our new battery-powered extrication equipment with fire personnel. These tools reduce the amount of noise and air pollution created and will soon be utilized in the field to rescue and extricate patients out of mangled vehicles. With less than two weeks left in October, fire personnel continue to visit schools to teach about fire safety and spread the message that “fire won’t wait, plan your escape.”
