Fire Department Weekly Report - week of November 20 – 26, 2022.

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of November 20 – 26, 2022. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:

Sunday, November 20 At 2:10 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical incident in the 400 block of Fairview Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a 67-year-old male complaining of abdominal pain. Fire personnel performed a full medical evaluation which included a 12-lead electrocardiogram, intravenous therapy, and oxygen administration. The patient was transported to USC Arcadia Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Monday, November 21 At 8:15 a.m., Engine 106 responded to a reported outside fire in the 1000 block of La Cadena Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a power line burning and arcing. Fire personnel immediately established a safe perimeter around the downed wire and requested Southern California Edison (SCE) to respond. Fire personnel informed nearby residents of the power outage in the area. SCE personnel arrived and were able to restore power to the affected area. Tuesday, November 22 At 2:11 p.m., Engine 105 responded to a report of a refuge fire in the 100 block of Genoa Street. Upon arrival, fire crews found a recycling bin that was on fire. The fire was located behind a residential area and flames were protruding from the base of the melted trash bin. Fire crews utilized a booster hose line to extinguish the fire, and hand tools and foam to ensure that the fire was extinguished and contained to the area of origin. Wednesday, November 23 At 4:16 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a report of a medical incident in the 400 block of West Huntington Drive. Upon arrival, there was a 69-year-old female complaining of shortness of breath. Fire personnel performed a full medical evaluation which included intravenous access, blood pressure check, and electrocardiogram. The patient was transported to USC Arcadia Hospital for evaluation and treatment. Thursday, November 24 At 7:02 a.m., Engine 105, Engine 106, Truck 105, Battalion 105, and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a report of a vehicle into a structure in the 1000 block of South Baldwin Avenue. Upon arrival, fire crews found a vehicle which had broken through the store’s front doors and came to a stop inside the business. The driver of the vehicle was uninjured and was able to self-extricate. Fire crews requested inspectors from Building Department and Los Angeles County Health Department to assess the damages.

Friday, November 25 At 11:48 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical incident in the 400 block of West Huntington Drive. Upon arrival, fire crews found a 61-year-old male in cardiac arrest. Fire personnel performed CPR, assisted ventilations, cardiac monitoring, established intravenous access, administered cardiac medications, and were able to obtain a return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC). The patient was transported to USC Arcadia Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Saturday, November 26 At 6:32 p.m., Engine 106 responded to a reported animal rescue at The Shops at Santa Anita. Upon arrival, fire personnel were directed by security personnel to a nearby escalator where a dog’s paw was trapped. Fire personnel were able to reverse the escalator and dislodge the trapped paw without incident. The dog’s paw was bandaged, and the owner was advised to seek further care from a veterinarian. Training Division As part of the Regional Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) Task Force, Arcadia USAR 106 will be deployed on an annual large-scale “Mobilization Exercise”. Arcadia USAR qualified personnel will take part in the exercise that will focus on large-area victim search, shoring of structurally compromised buildings, structural and victim markings, and vehicle extrication. The Task Force is comprised of 30 personnel from several local departments including Pasadena, San Gabriel, Monterey Park, Glendale, Alhambra, Monrovia, and Arcadia. Specialties of this Task Force also include technical rope rescue, confined space rescue, trench rescue, technical search, hazardous material, emergency building shoring, and drone-wide area search capability.
