Fire Department Weekly Report - week of March 27 – April 2, 2022

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of March 27 – April 2, 2022. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:
Sunday, March 27 At 10:00 p.m., Engine 105 responded to a report of a hazardous condition in the 100 block of Alice Street. Upon arrival, there was a broken tree limb that was leaning into the street. Fire personnel utilized a ladder and a chainsaw to cut the fallen limb and removed the hazard away from the power lines. All debris and cut materials were removed from the street and Arcadia Public Works Department was notified.

Monday, March 28 At 10:05 p.m., Engine 107 responded to a report of an outside fire in the 2100 block of Highland Oaks Drive. Upon arrival, there was a large lithium-ion battery pack that had exploded in the front yard of a residence. The unburned lithium-ion cells were placed in a bag and submerged into water. The damaged cells were cooled by using a hose line and the homeowner was advised to dispose of the materials through a hazardous materials program. The fire was contained to the area of origin and no structures were affected during this incident. Tuesday, March 29 At 10:35 a.m., Engine 106 and Truck 105 responded to a reported flooding condition in the 900 block of Monte Verde Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a construction crew working on the residence that had cut into a fire sprinkler line by accident. Firefighters quickly turned off the water supply to the fire sprinkler system and utilized equipment to remove the residual standing water from inside of the home. The residence was released to the on-site contractor for necessary repairs. Wednesday, March 30 At 12:45 p.m., Engine 105 responded to the 210 Freeway at Santa Anita Avenue for a reported vehicle that was leaking gasoline. Firefighters arrived to find a vehicle on the bed of a tow truck leaking gasoline from a hole in the gas tank. The area was isolated due to the flammability of the leaking gasoline. Firefighters then utilized a product designed to seal ruptures in fuel tanks to stop the leak. An absorbent was applied to the remaining fuel, and the tow truck was able to safely be on its way. Thursday, March 31 At 9:03 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 400 block of South Baldwin Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 56-year- old male patient who was suffering from chest pain. The patient received advanced life support including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, medications, and blood glucose monitoring. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Friday, April 1 At 8:35 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 400 block of West Huntington Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated an 82- year-old female patient who was suffering from internal bleeding. The patient received advanced life support including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and blood glucose monitoring. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Saturday, April 2 At 10:17 a.m., Engine 106, Engine 105, Engine 107, Truck 105, Truck 32, Rescue Ambulance 106, and Battalion 105 responded to a reported commercial structure fire in the 1220 block of South Baldwin Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find smoke coming from the roof of the occupancy while construction workers were on-site. Upon investigation, fire crews found workers steam-cleaning the ventilation system for routine maintenance and servicing. No fire, damage, or issue was found.

Training During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 373 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre- Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
