Fire Department Weekly Report - week of June 5 – 11, 2022

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of June 5 – 11, 2022. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:


Sunday, June 5 At 3:03 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a vehicle accident in the 100 block of West Duarte Road. Upon arrival, fire personnel quickly triaged six patients and requested additional resources to the scene. Engine 106, Rescue Ambulance 106, and Sierra Madre Rescue Ambulance 41 responded. The patients received advanced life support including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and blood glucose monitoring. Due to the ages of the patients and the injuries sustained, most were transported to Los Angeles County USC Trauma Center and Huntington Trauma Center. One patient was transported to Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Monday, June 6 At 10:15 p.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 1600 block of North Santa Anita Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 77- year-old male patient who was suffering from nausea and vomiting. The patient received advanced life support including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and blood glucose monitoring. The patient was transported to San Gabriel Valley Medical Center for further evaluation and treatment. Tuesday, June 7 At 10:49 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 105 were dispatched to a medical incident in the 1000 block of Balboa Drive. Upon arrival, fire crews found an 80-year-old male patient who had a syncopal episode. Fire crews performed a full medical evaluation which included a 12-lead electrocardiogram and intravenous therapy. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for an evaluation.

Wednesday, June 8

At 3:45 p.m., Engine 106, Rescue Ambulance 106, and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a report of a vehicle collision at 400 South Baldwin Avenue. Upon arrival, there was one vehicle that ran into the wall of a parking structure. There were two patients on scene and the other two passengers in the vehicle left the scene. Fire personnel completed full medical evaluations of the patients and they were transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for an evaluation. Arcadia Police Department remained on scene with Westfield Security.


Thursday, June 9 At 12:28 p.m., Engine 106 responded to the 1000 block of Live Oak Avenue for a reported outdoor fire. Firefighters arrived to find a large roll-off trash container burning near a structure. One additional engine company was requested to assist with extinguishment.

Friday, June 10 At 2:11 a.m., Engine 106, Engine 105, Engine 41, Truck 105, Truck 32, Rescue Ambulance 106, and Battalion 105 responded to the 1100 block of South Baldwin Avenue for a reported structure fire. The first-arriving engine company reported heavy smoke coming from a commercial strip mall. Firefighters quickly deployed hose lines and entered the structure. The fire attack crew quickly found a large kitchen area with items burning on the stove. The items were extinguished, and the area was ventilated to remove the heavy smoke conditions. No fire damage occurred to the structure. Saturday, June 11 At 4:59 p.m., Engine 105 with Monrovia Squad 102 responded to a medical assist in the 100 block of North Second Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 29-year-old male patient who was suffering from shortness of breath. The patient received advanced life support including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, glucose check, and intravenous access with three doses of epinephrine. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Personnel Update The Fire Department’s three new hires continued their three-week orientation with emphasis on engine operations. Each day brought new challenges and skills, orientating the new firefighters to the deployment of hose lines and engine ladders off of Arcadia’s fire apparatus. The Fire Department’s five Fire Engineer candidates train daily, dedicating long hours in preparation for the practical assessment portion of the Fire Engineer examination scheduled for June 14. Training included apparatus driving, connecting to hydrants, calculating pump hydraulics, and aerial ladder operations. Successful candidates will immediately fill two current Fire Engineer vacancies. Training During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 671 hours of training. Some of the subjects include: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
