Fire Department Weekly Report - week of June 26 – July 2, 2022

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of June 26 – July 2, 2022. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:

Sunday, June 26 At 10:22 p.m., Engine 105 responded to a call for public assistance in the 5600 block of Peck Road. Firefighters arrived to find a large storage facility with a 50-year-old female that had been locked inside for over four hours before finally calling for help. Firefighters gained access to the facility and escorted the woman to safety. Monday, June 27 At 5:05 a.m., Engine 106 responded to the 400 block of South Baldwin Avenue for a reported fire alarm. Firefighters arrived to find a commercial unit undergoing fire alarm maintenance without placing the system on testing mode which caused the false dispatch. Tuesday, June 28 At 1:17 p.m., Truck 105 responded under a non-emergency response to the 100 block of East Live Oak Avenue for an animal rescue. Firefighters arrived to find a kitten that was stuck inside of a heavy-duty commercial storage shelving unit. Firefighters quickly isolated the kitten and utilized several specialized cutting tools which enabled the kitten to be released to safety. The kitten was safely removed and found to be healthy and well. With an animal rescue officer onsite, the kitten was then transferred to Pasadena Humane Society.

Wednesday, June 29 At 12:03 p.m., Engine 105, with the assistance of Sierra Madre’s Rescue Ambulance unit, responded to a medical assist in the 100 block of Alice Street. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 70-year-old female patient who was suffering from general weakness and dizziness. The patient received advanced life support including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access with fluid challenge, and blood glucose monitoring. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Thursday, June 30 At 12:14 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 200 block of West Huntington Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 79-year- old male patient who was found lying down after possible effects of intoxication. The patient received advanced life support including intravenous access and blood glucose monitoring. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Friday, July 1 At 6:53 p.m., Engine 106 responded to a report of a refuge fire at 400 South Baldwin Avenue. Upon arrival, fire crews found a smoldering trash fire at a nearby facility. Fire crews extinguished the fire, which was contained to the area of origin. Saturday, July 2 At 7:11 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 were dispatched to a medical incident in the 600 block of West Duarte Road. Upon arrival, fire crews found a 61-year- old female with a complaint of weakness and dizziness. The patient received an electrocardiogram, intravenous therapy, and a full set of vital signs. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for an evaluation. Training During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 393 hours of training. Some of the subjects include: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
