Fire Department Weekly Report- week of July 25 – 31, 2021

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of July 25 – 31, 2021. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:

Sunday, July 25 At 6:46 p.m., Engine 106 responded to a report of a vehicle fire in the 400 block of South Baldwin Avenue. When fire personnel arrived, there was a box truck with smoke pushing out of the engine compartment. Fire personnel gained access to the engine, utilized a 1 3⁄4” hose line to cool down the engine compartment, and was able to limit the amount of damage to the vehicle. Monday, July 26 At 10:38 a.m., Engine 107 responded to a report of electrical wires down in the 1000 block of Rancho Road. Upon arrival, fire crew found an oak tree that had fallen on top of a 240- volt power line. Fire personnel created a safe area around the incident and notified Southern California Edison to shut down the power to the affected area. Tuesday, July 27 At 9:42 p.m., Engine 107, Engine 106, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 105, and Battalion 105 responded to a traffic collision with a rolled over vehicle at the eastbound 210 Freeway at Santa Anita Avenue. Fire crews found one passenger trapped in the vehicle. The patient was extricated and received advanced life support while being transported to the trauma center for further evaluation and treatment.

Wednesday, July 28 At 9:47 p.m., Rescue Ambulance 106 and Sierra Madre Engine 41 were dispatched to the 1900 block of Liliano Drive. Upon arrival, fire crews found a person experiencing nausea, vomiting, and a feeling of weakness. Fire crews provided advanced life support measures including a 12-lead electrocardiogram, IV therapy, blood pressure, and oxygen. The patient was transported to the hospital for further evaluation. Thursday, July 29 At 12:14 a.m., Engine 106 was dispatched to the 500 block of West Lemon Avenue. Arcadia Police Department requested assistance with an electrical hazard incident. The house was being used as an illegal marijuana grow house with the electrical wiring not meeting the city building code. Fire personnel investigated the area and shut down the electricity at the panel. Southern California Edison was dispatched, and the Arcadia Police Department secured the scene.

Friday, July 30 At 10:09 a.m., Engine 705, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 105, and Battalion 105 were dispatched to the 2600 block of Longley Way. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a 6-year- old male patient with his leg stuck between a pole and a pillar. Fire personnel utilized the hydraulic extrication tools to manipulate the pole and created more space between the pillar and the pole. The patient’s leg was freed and was evaluated by Fire personnel. The patient was not injured and was released.

Saturday, July 31 At 6:13 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 1600 block of South Baldwin Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated an 85- year-old male patient who was having difficulty breathing. The patient received advanced life support at the scene including oxygen therapy, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and medication therapy. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Strike Team Activity

During the reporting period, Engine 105 and OES Engine 343 remain assigned to Dixie Fire in Northern California. OES Engine 343 crew and Arcadia Battalion Chief were relieved by new personnel to adhere to work and rest requirements. Both strike teams continue to be given assignments including structure defense, property preparation, and support functions related to firing operations.



Training During the reporting period, Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 413 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre- Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
