Fire Department Weekly Report -week of February 20 – 26, 2022

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of February 20 – 26, 2022. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:

Sunday, February 20 At 9:35 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical incident in the 400 block of East Live Oak Avenue. Upon arrival, there was a 51-year-old patient who had complaints of nausea, vomiting, fever, and a headache. The patient was given a full medical evaluation and intravenous therapy. The patient was transported to San Gabriel Medical Center for further evaluation. Monday, February 21 At 2:32 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to the 400 block of South Santa Anita Avenue for a reported person down. Fire crews arrived to find a 58- year-old male patient with a contusion on the back of his head after he had been assaulted. Paramedics cleaned and bandaged the patient’s wound. The patient refused further treatment and was released to Arcadia Police Department. Tuesday, February 22 At 5:37 a.m., Engine 107 responded to a fire alarm in the 100 block of East Foothill Boulevard. Firefighters found contractors working on site that had damaged a refrigerant cooling system, which activated the fire alarm system. Due to the released refrigerant, the building was evacuated. Truck 105 was called to assist and initiate positive pressure ventilation of the building utilizing high powered fans. Once the atmosphere was cleared for occupancy, the property was released to the contractor for repairs. Wednesday, February 23 At 6:36 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 300 block of East Huntington Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated an 83-year- old female patient who was suffering from abdominal pain. The patient received advanced life support including 12-lead cardiac monitoring and blood glucose monitoring. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Thursday, February 24 At 9:43 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 400 block of East Huntington Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 43-year- old male patient who was suffering from chest pain. The patient received advanced life support including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, medication therapy, and blood glucose monitoring. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Friday, February 25 At 4:08 p.m., Engine 107 and Truck 105 responded to the 300 block of West Huntington Drive for a person reported to be trapped inside an elevator. Fire crews found one patient trapped in the elevator with no critical medical issues. Fire crews turned off the power to the elevator, lowered the elevator car to the ground level, and utilized specialized elevator rescue tools to gain entry and rapid access to the victim. The patient was safely removed from the stalled elevator without further incident. Saturday, February 26 At 11:02 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 700 block of Callita Street. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 78-year-old male patient who was suffering from a gastral intestinal bleed. The patient received advanced life support including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and blood glucose check. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Training During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 321 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre- Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
