Fire Department Weekly Report week of December 5 - 11, 2021

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of December 5 – 11, 2021. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:

Sunday, December 5 At 11:15 a.m., Engine 105 and Truck 105 responded to a report of a major flooded condition in the 600 block of Palm Avenue. There was a water leak on the second floor of the house. Fire personnel shut off the water to the house and the water leak was isolated to the room of origin. Fire personnel utilized a water vacuum and hand tools to evacuate the water and limit the damage to the structure. Salvage covers were used on the first floor to limit the amount of damage to the furniture. The residents were advised to call a plumber to help resolve the water leak. Monday, December 6 At 11:33 p.m., Engine 106 and Monrovia Squad 101 responded to a medical assist in the 900 block of West Huntington Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 52-year-old male patient who was suffering from a heart dysrhythmia with palpitations. The patient received advanced life support including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and blood glucose monitoring. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Tuesday, December 7 At 12:53 p.m., Truck 105, Engine 105, Engine 106, Rescue Ambulance 105, and Battalion 105 assisted units from Monrovia Fire Department with a response to a structure fire in the 1600 block of Leafwood Drive, Monrovia. Upon arrival, fire units found smoke-stained windows but no fire coming from the structure. Fire personnel forced entry into the structure and found heavy smoke conditions inside. Upon investigation, fire personnel found a smoldering fire within the living room. Fire personnel extinguished the fire and contained the fire to the area of origin. In addition, fire personnel searched for any victims, ventilated the structure, treated one occupant for smoke inhalation, and provided for firefighter safety. The incident was released to Monrovia Fire Department for completion.

Wednesday, December 8 At 6:22 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to an auto versus bicycle incident in front of 130 West Huntington Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated an 18-year-old male patient who was suffering from a heart dysrhythmia and head trauma. The patient received advanced life support including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and blood glucose monitoring. The patient was transported to Huntington Hospital Trauma Center for further evaluation and treatment.

Thursday, December 9 At 2:05 p.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a report of a vehicle versus fire hydrant at the intersection of Santa Anita Avenue and Foothill Boulevard. Upon arrival, fire crews found a single vehicle that had sheered a fire hydrant and was stopped on top of the flowing water. Fire crews utilized a hydrant shut-off key to shut off the water supply valve. Arcadia Police Department remained on scene with the driver and Arcadia Public Works Department was notified of the sheered hydrant.

Friday, December 10 At 9:14 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical incident in the 500 block of Norman Avenue. Upon arrival, there was a 76-year-old female patient with a complaint of shortness of breath. Fire personnel did a complete medical assessment which included vital signs, a 12-lead electrocardiogram, and intravenous therapy. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for an evaluation. Saturday, December 11 At 7:30 a.m., Engine 105 responded to a report of a gas leak in the 900 block of Balboa Drive. Upon arrival, there was a light smell of gas from the street. Fire personnel utilized a multi-gas monitor and a gas detector to verify that the atmosphere was not at a dangerous level for the residents. Once the area was determined to be safe, fire personnel secured the gas meter and contacted The Gas Company for a response. There were no injuries or medical complaints from the gas leak. Training During the reporting period, Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 373 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre- Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
