Fire Department Weekly Report - week of December 19 - 25, 2021

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of December 19 – 25, 2021.

Sunday, December 19 At 5:30 p.m., Engine 106 and Truck 105 responded to an elevator rescue at 400 South Baldwin Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a single elevator stuck between floors. Fire personnel turned off the power to the elevator and manually opened the interior and exterior doors. Once opened, fire personnel assisted seven occupants out of the elevator and released them once determined they had no medical treatment needs. Fire personnel placed the elevator out of service and the incident was released to building security. Monday, December 20 At 6:05 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a traffic accident at 12340 Lower Azusa Road. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a single vehicle with front end damage after hitting a fire hydrant and an electrical pole. An occupant was not found in the vehicle. Fire personnel requested Arcadia Public Works Department to assist with turning off the water to the damaged fire hydrant and Southern California Edison to repair the damaged electrical equipment. The incident was released to Arcadia Police Department for further mitigation.

Tuesday, December 21 At 5:58 p.m., Engine 105, Engine 106, Engine107, Truck 105, Truck 101, and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a report of a house fire in the 1000 block of Park Avenue. Upon arrival, there was a light smell of smoke from the street and fire crews found a smoldering fire under a small area of the roof shingles. Fire crews utilized an extension ladder to access the roof to extinguish the smoldering fire. A thermal imaging camera was used to ensure that the fire was completely extinguished. Wednesday, December 22 At 4:51 a.m., Engine 107, Truck 105, Battalion 105, and

Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a five-car traffic collision on the west bound 210 Freeway at Baldwin Avenue. Upon arrival, there was one motorcyclist that was trapped under a vehicle. Fire crews used cribbing and extrication equipment to lift the vehicle to remove the patient. Once extricated, fire personnel did a complete medical assessment. California Highway Patrol remained on scene for an investigation.


Thursday, December 23 At 6:29 p.m., USAR 106, Battalion 105, and units from Pasadena Fire Department responded to a vehicle trapped under a semi-truck incident. USAR 106 was assigned to rescue group with USAR 32 and Truck 32. A Los Angeles County heavy rescue truck was also dispatched to assist with lifting the semi-truck. Two patients were extricated and transported to Huntington Hospital Trauma Center for an evaluation. Battalion 105 was the safety officer of the incident and there were no injuries to the rescue personnel.

Friday, December 24 At 8:07 a.m., Engine 105 responded to a flooding call at 615 South First Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a business with water leaking from the roof and standing water on the ground. Fire personnel emptied trash cans full of water and used squeegees to remove standing water from the ground. After removing most of the standing water, fire personnel advised occupant to have the roof fixed and continue to monitor the trash cans for water removal. The incident was released to the occupant for mitigation. Saturday, December 25 At 2:38 p.m., Engine 106, Engine 41, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 106, and Battalion 105 responded to a reported traffic collision with occupants trapped. Fire crews arrived to find a solo vehicle traffic collision with multiple people involved. All involved parties were quickly evaluated, and no injuries were reported.

Training During the reporting period, Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 249 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre- Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
