Fire Department Weekly Report week of August 4 – August 10, 2019

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of August 4 – August 10, 2019. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:




Sunday, August 4th

At 1:45 p.m., Engine 105 and Monrovia Squad 102 responded to a medical call in the 700 block of West Duarte Road. Fire crews arrived to find an elderly female in an altered level of consciousness. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous therapy, and blood glucose level monitoring. The patient was transported by private ambulance to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Monday, August 5th

At 6:23 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 1600 block of Loganrita Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel assessed a 78-year- old female experiencing prolonged weakness. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, orthostatic tests, and blood glucose level monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Tuesday, August 6th

At 12:53 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical call in the 500 block of West Rosemarie Drive. Fire crews arrived to find an elderly male with a heart arrhythmia. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous therapy and 12-lead cardiac monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Wednesday, August 7th

At 2:43 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 600 block of West Huntington Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a 41-year- old male, sitting on a bus bench, having chest pain. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous therapy and 12-lead cardiac monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Thursday, August 8th

At 3:18 a.m., Engine 105, Engine 106,

Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 105, and Battalion 105, assisted by Los Angeles County Fire E47, responded to a vehicle into a structure traffic accident in the 00 block of Las Tunas Drive. Fire crews arrived to find a vehicle on its side and lodged above ground into a structure. The vehicle’s only occupant was declared deceased at the scene. Fire personnel searched for additional victims, stabilized the vehicle, shut off utilities to the location, and checked for further structural damage. The Arcadia Police Department responded for investigation.

Friday, August 9th

At 9:23 p.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical call in the 900 block of South Baldwin Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 66- year-old female experiencing severe back pain. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring and blood glucose level monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Saturday, August 10th

At 4:15 p.m., Engine 105 and Monrovia Squad 102 responded to a two-vehicle traffic accident at the intersection of West Huntington Drive and Centennial Drive. Fire crews arrived to find Los Angeles County Squad 167 assessing two patients with minor injuries. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including cervical spine assessment. Both patients refused further treatment and declined transport to a local hospital.

Volunteer Activity

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department had a total of 88 hours of volunteer services. Specifically, volunteers from the community donated their time to assist the Department with administrative, fire prevention, and miscellaneous duties.

Training

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 451 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.



Arcadia & Monrovia Fire Departments participate in a hazardous materials training course on August 7th.
