Fire Department Weekly Report - week of August 29 – September 4, 2021

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of August 29 – September 4, 2021. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:

Sunday, August 29 At 4:45 p.m., Urban Search and Rescue 106, Engine 41, Rescue Ambulance 41, and Battalion 105 responded with Sierra Madre Mountain Rescue units to a rescue call on Mount Wilson Trail. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a female patient who needed assistance from the mountain trail. She was approximately two miles up the trail with a complaint of knee and foot pain. Fire personnel utilized a litter basket to move the patient down the hill. The patient refused further care and transport to the hospital. Monday, August 30 At 3:51 p.m., Engine 107, Engine 41, Rescue Ambulance 41, and Battalion 105 responded to a report of a fire in the 800 block of Second Avenue. Upon arrival, fire crews found multiple structures on fire. Fire crews requested a full alarm structure fire response, and Engine 105, Truck 105, Engine 106, Battalion 105, and units from Monrovia and Sierra Madre responded to the incident. The fire was contained to the area of origin and all adjacent structures were protected. There were no injuries reported on the incident.


Tuesday, August 31 At 2:07 p.m., Engine 105, Battalion 105, Monrovia Engine 102, and Pasadena Truck 32 responded to the 600 block of Norman Avenue for a report of smoke in a structure. Fire personnel arrived to find a single-family residence with smell of smoke inside. Upon investigation, fire personnel found an electrical circuit and an appliance causing the issue. No fire or smoke damage occurred to the structure and all assisting units were released. Wednesday, September 1 At 12:12 p.m., Engine 107, Rescue Ambulance 105, and Pasadena Engine 37 responded to a reported four-vehicle traffic collision on the eastbound 210 Freeway. Fire crews arrived and quickly evaluated all involved parties and found no injuries and no further actions were required. Fire crews maintained scene safety to protect the involved parties until California Highway Patrol arrived to mitigate the incident.

Thursday, September 2 At 10:30 a.m., Engine 106 responded to a vehicle fire in the 1300 block of Golden West Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a vehicle with fire burning within the engine compartment, extending into the passenger space. The vehicle contained no occupants and firefighters extinguished the fire with a hose line. Fire was contained to the vehicle involved and no other action was needed. The incident was released to Arcadia Police Department. Friday, September 3 At 11:18 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 100 block of Huntington Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated an 83-year-old male patient complaining of head pain after a fall. The patient received advanced life support including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, glucose check, and intravenous access. The patient was transported to Huntington Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Saturday, September 4 At 8:02 p.m., Rescue Ambulance 205 responded to a medical incident in the 200 block of West Huntington Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 46-year-old male patient who was experiencing an altered level of consciousness. The patient received advanced life support including oxygen therapy, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and medication therapy. The patient was transported to San Gabriel Medical Center for further evaluation and treatment. Strike Team Activity During the reporting period, OES Engine 343 continued to protect assets and structures at Caldor Fire as part of Strike Team 1840A. With increased winds and heat, the fire expanded at a rapid rate and threatened the area of South Lake Tahoe. OES Engine 1613 with its three-person crew remained versatile and were assigned a variety of tasks. One member assigned as a fire line EMT completed his 21-day deployment and returned home.


Training During the reporting period, Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 299 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre- Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
