Fire Department Weekly Report week of August 22 – 28, 2021

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of August 22 – 28, 2021. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:
Sunday, August 22 At 1:58 p.m., Engine 105, Engine 106, Engine 107, Truck 105, Truck 32, Rescue Ambulance 106, and Battalion 105 responded to an apartment fire in the 400 block of West Duarte Road. Fire crews utilized the incident command system and attacked the fire from the second floor. The fire crews performed salvage operations to preserve the property. The fire was contained to the unit of origin and there were no reported injuries.

Monday, August 23 At 1:58 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to the 1600 block of Fourth Avenue. Upon arrival, fire crews found a female patient complaining of chest pain. The patient was assessed with advanced life support procedures that included an electrocardiogram, intravenous therapies, and cardiac medications. The patient was transported to the hospital for an evaluation.

Tuesday, August 24 At 5:28 p.m., Engine 105, Engine 106, Engine 107, Truck 105, Truck 32, Rescue Ambulance 106, and Battalion 105 responded to a report of a structure fire in the 900 block of Fairview Avenue. Fire crews utilized the incident command system and attacked all areas of the fire. A second alarm was assigned to the incident that included units from Pasadena, Monrovia, San Marino, L.A. County, and Santa Fe Springs. Fire crews performed salvage operations to preserve the property. The fire was contained to three units. One patient was transported to the hospital for an evaluation.
Wednesday, August 25 At 10:06 a.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a reported person down at the intersection of Woodland Avenue and Sycamore Drive. Fire crews found a 70-year-old male patient who was involved in a cyclist versus auto accident. Paramedics initiated advanced life support treatments including a 12-lead electrocardiogram, blood glucose testing, intravenous fluids, and bandaging for multiple injuries and abrasions. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further care and evaluation.
Thursday, August 26 At 1:09 p.m., Engine 106 responded to a reported vegetation fire at Duarte Road and Encino Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find a well-established vegetation fire to the rear of an apartment building. Fire crews quickly extinguished the fire with one hose line, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

Friday, August 27 At 9:24 a.m., Engine 106, Engine 102, and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a reported traffic collision on the eastbound 210 Freeway. Fire crews found one vehicle approximately 100 feet over the side of the freeway. The vehicle was quickly searched, and no additional victims were in the vehicle. One patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further care.

Saturday, August 28 At 5:28 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 400 block of West Huntington Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 62-year- old female patient complaining of chest pain. The patient received advanced life support including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, glucose check, and intravenous access with pain medication. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
Strike Team Activity During the reporting period, four fresh members deployed out to relieve our OES Engine 343 crew that is a part of Strike Team 1840A. This is the fourth crew rotation, totaling six weeks of work. Just prior to the exchange, Strike Team 1840A was reassigned to Caldor Fire in El Dorado County. Additionally, one member continues to function as a Fireline EMT for Dixie Fire and is completing his second week of a 21-day deployment. Lastly, OES Engine 1613 staffed by three members also deployed to Caldor Fire. This was the inaugural deployment for OES Engine 1613. OES Engine 1613 is a Type VI fire engine often used for wildland firefighting. Type VI Training During the reporting period, Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 253 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre- Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
