Fire Department Weekly Report - week of August 1 – 7, 2021

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of August 1 – 7, 2021. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:

Sunday, August 1 At 12:13 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 were dispatched to Arcadia Methodist Hospital. Fire crews arrived to find a 34-year-old male patient suffering from a gunshot wound in the left shoulder. The patient was stabilized and transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital Trauma Center for further care and treatment. Monday, August 2 At 4:14 a.m., Engine 705 and Monrovia Engine 102 responded to a reported outdoor fire in the 600 block of Live Oak Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find a homeless encampment well involved in fire. Fire crews utilized a rotary saw to cut metal fencing to gain access to the fire area, extended a hose line, and extinguished the fire. An arson investigator was dispatched to the scene. The cause of this fire continues to be under investigation. Tuesday, August 3 At 8:23 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist at the intersection of Huntington Drive and Baldwin Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 42-year-old male patient who was suffering from a stroke. The patient received advanced life support including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and blood glucose monitoring. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Wednesday, August 4 At 12:30 a.m., Truck 105 and Monrovia Squad 102 responded to a medical assist in the first block of Wheeler Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 90-year-old male patient who was experiencing an altered level of consciousness after having a seizure. The patient received advanced life support including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and blood glucose monitoring. The patient was transported by Care Ambulance and Monrovia Squad 102 to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Thursday, August 5 At 6:07 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 700 block of West Camino Real Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a female patient who was experiencing abdominal pain and dizziness. The patient received advanced life support including oxygen therapy, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, pain management, and intravenous access. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Friday, August 6 At 10:49 p.m., Engine 106, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 106, and Battalion 105 reported to a two-vehicle traffic collision with one vehicle overturned. Upon arrival, fire crews found three patients with two patients needing extrication from a vehicle. Truck 105 was assigned to Extrication Group and Battalion 105 assumed incident command. Two patients were transported to a trauma center for further evaluation and treatment.




Saturday, August 7 At 10:45 a.m., Truck 105 reported to a fire alarm activation in the 100 block of West Duarte Road. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a pull station had activated the fire alarm system. There were no signs of smoke or fire. Fire personnel assisted the facility with resetting the pull station and the fire alarm system. Strike Team Activity After a 16-day deployment, Engine 105 with Strike Team 1205A returned home. The crews reported a busy deployment with high fire activity across Dixie Fire. OES Engine 343 with Strike Team 1840A continues to be assigned to Dixie Fire. Training During the reporting period, Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 290 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre- Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
