Fire Department Weekly Report - week of April 3 – 9, 2022

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of April 3 – 9, 2022. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:

Sunday, April 3 At 4:06 p.m., Engine 107, Engine 105, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 105, and Battalion 105 responded to a traffic collision with a person trapped in the 100 block of Sycamore Avenue. Firefighters arrived to find a single vehicle traffic collision with no person trapped. Fire personnel treated one patient who was released on scene.

Monday, April 4 At 4:06 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a traffic collision with a pedestrian struck at the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Huntington Drive. Firefighters arrived to find a motorcyclist down with a second vehicle involved with heavy damage caused from the impact. Paramedics began advanced life support measures for the motorcyclist and an additional Rescue Ambulance was requested to assist the driver of the vehicle who suffered injuries from the collision.

Tuesday, April 5 At 1:54 a.m., Engine 105 responded to a reported fire alarm in the 200 block of East Duarte Road. Fire personnel arrived to an audible alarm and a faint smell of smoke. Truck 105 was requested to respond and assist with investigating the cause. Fire crews found a small hidden area inside with residue from some type of burning material. The crews worked to reset the fire alarm and ensured the property was protected from any further fire issues.

Wednesday, April 6 At 1:19 p.m., Battalion 105, Truck 105, Engine 106, and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a person stuck in a tree at 285 West Huntington Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel found one tree trimmer about 40 feet up a tree with an injury to his forehead. Fire personnel set up the aerial ladder and a firefighter helped the victim release himself from the tree. The victim was safely brought down to the ground and received advanced life support including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and trauma bandaging. The patient was transported to Huntington Trauma Center for further evaluation and treatment.

Thursday, April 7 At 7:26 p.m., Engine 106, Monrovia Squad 101, and Care Ambulance responded to a medical assist in the 1200 block of South Baldwin Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 40-year-old male patient who was suffering from a near syncopal episode. The patient received advanced life support including 12-lead cardiac monitoring and intravenous access with a fluid challenge. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Friday, April 8 At 4:49 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist at the intersection of Santa Anita Avenue and Huntington Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 58-year-old male patient who was complaining of altered level of consciousness. The patient received advanced life support including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and blood sugar testing. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Saturday, April 9 At 4:34 p.m., Engine 105 and Monrovia Squad 101 responded to a report of a person that was unconscious and unresponsive in the 100 block of East Santa Clara Street. Firefighters arrived to find this man pulseless, apneic, and on board of the Metro Gold Line. Paramedics evaluated the male patient confirming the patient was deceased. The scene was released to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department for further investigation.

Training During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 366 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre- Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
