Fire Department Weekly Report - week of April 24 – 30, 2022

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of April 24 – 30, 2022. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:

Sunday, April 24 At 9:23 a.m., Engine 105 and Monrovia Squad 102 responded to a traffic collision at the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Fairview Avenue. Firefighters arrived to find a two- vehicle traffic collision with one patient suffering from neck and back pain. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further treatment and care. Monday, April 25 At 11:05 a.m., Engine 105, Monrovia Squad 101, and Care Ambulance responded to a medical assist in the first block of Foothill Boulevard. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated an 81-year-old male patient who was suffering from feeling weak and dizzy. The patient received advanced life support including 12-lead cardiac monitoring and intravenous access with glucose test. The patient was transported by Monrovia Squad 101 and Care Ambulance to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Tuesday, April 26 At 1:00 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a report of a medical incident in the 100 block of Norman Avenue. Upon arrival, there was an 81-year-old female patient sitting in the front yard of her residence with a medical complaint of heart palpitations. Fire personnel did a full medical evaluation of the patient that included vitals, 12-lead electrocardiogram, and intravenous therapy. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for an evaluation. Wednesday, April 27 At 11:28 p.m., Engine 106, Rescue Ambulance 106, Truck 105, and Battalion 105 responded to a report of an overturned vehicle with a person trapped at the intersection of Baldwin Avenue and Las Tunas Avenue. Upon arrival, there was one vehicle overturned and one patient that needed extrication. Truck 105 and Engine 106 were assigned to extrication and Rescue Ambulance 106 was assigned Medical Group. After the patient was extricated, they were transported to Huntington Trauma Center for an evaluation.

Thursday, April 28 At 11:32 a.m., Truck 105 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to the 100 block of Colorado Boulevard for a person with an altered level of consciousness. Fire crews arrived to find a four-year-old female patient that was experiencing seizure-type activity. Paramedics initiated advanced life support treatments including a 12-lead electrocardiogram, intravenous access, medications, and airway management. The patient was transported to Children’s Hospital for further care and treatment.

Friday, April 29 At 6:05 p.m., Rescue Ambulance 106 along with Pasadena units responded to a reported traffic collision on the westbound 210 Freeway at Michillinda Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find a solo vehicle accident involving a 37-year-old male motorcyclist. Paramedics initiated advanced life support treatments including a 12-lead electrocardiogram, intravenous access, full primary and secondary assessments revealing extensive abrasions over most of the patient. The patient was transported to Huntington Trauma Center for further care and treatment. Saturday, April 30 At 10:49 a.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a traffic accident on the 210 Freeway at Michillinda Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a two-vehicle traffic accident with two patients. The patients received advanced life support including 12-lead cardiac monitoring and blood glucose monitoring. The patients were transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Training During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 554 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre- Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
