Fire Department Weekly Report - July 27 - July 3, 2021

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of June 27 – July 3, 2021. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:


Sunday, June 27 At 4:51 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to the 300 block of Fairview Avenue. Firefighters arrived to find a 60-year-old female patient on the front porch of her home complaining of chest pain and shortness of breath. Paramedics arrived and initiated advanced life support measures including a 12-lead electrocardiogram, oxygen treatments, medications, and a rapid transport to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further testing and care. Monday, June 28 At 9:00 a.m., Engine 105 responded to arching wires in the 1900 block of Sixth Avenue. Upon arrival, fire units found a high voltage Southern California Edison (SCE) line had sagged down, made contact, and began burning the communication lines. Fire personnel extinguished any active vegetation burning and requested SCE to respond for repairs. In addition, fire crews protected adjacent structures and provided for firefighter safety. The incident was released to SCE.




Tuesday, June 29 At 7:11 p.m., Engine 106 and Monrovia Squad 102 responded to a medical assist in the 2700 block of Longley Way. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 55-year-old female patient who was experiencing abdominal pain. The patient received advanced life support including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access with fluids, and glucose check. The patient was transported by Care Ambulance to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Wednesday, June 30 At 7:41 a.m., Truck 105 and Engine 107 responded to a person trapped in an elevator at the 700 block of North Santa Anita Avenue. One person was found trapped inside a stalled elevator with no medical complaints. Fire crews used a non-destructive forcible entry method to gain access to the trapped person. After removing the trapped person, the elevator was placed out of service.

Fire Department Weekly Report July 9, 2021 Page |3 Thursday, July 1 At 4:17 p.m., Engine 107 responded to a person locked out of a vehicle in the 100 block of East Duarte Road. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a one-year-old male passenger locked inside a vehicle. Fire personnel used non-destructive methods to gain access into the vehicle. The child was removed from the vehicle without incident. After an evaluation, the child appeared to be normal and not in distress. Friday, July 2 At 4:42 p.m., Engine 106 and Engine 107 responded to the 400 block of East Santa Clara Street for a reported vegetation fire. Fire crews arrived to find an outdoor fire adjacent to a commercial structure. Fire crews quickly pulled a hose line and extinguished the fire. No damage to the structure occurred. The fire was suspicious in nature so Arcadia arson investigators were called to investigate the cause and origin of the incident. Saturday, July 3 At 4:08 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical aid call in the 1600 block of Sixth Avenue. Firefighters arrived to find a 50-year-old male patient suffering from a traumatic injury that caused arterial bleeding. Firefighters applied direct pressure and bandages to control the hemorrhaging. Paramedics initiated advanced life support measures including intravenous fluids, 12-lead electrocardiogram, blood glucose testing, and rapid transportation to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further treatment. Training During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 393 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre- Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
