Fire Department Weekly Report the week of September 8 – September 14, 2019

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of September 8 – September 14, 2019. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:

Sunday, September 8th At 11:50 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical call in the 200 block of West Huntington Drive. Fire crews arrived to find a 39-year-old male disoriented after a seizure. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and blood glucose level monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment. Monday, September 9th At 4:33 p.m., Engine 106 and Truck 105 responded to an elevator rescue in the 600 block of Las Tunas Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel found one occupant trapped inside a malfunctioning elevator. Fire crews reset the elevator control system by shutting it off and then restoring power. The occupant was removed from the elevator without incident. The elevator was taken out of service by the facility technician until proper repairs could be made. Tuesday, September 10th At 9:32 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 400 block of West Huntington Drive. Fire crews arrived to find a 93-year-old female in respiratory failure. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including oxygen therapy, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, bag-valve- mask ventilations, and medication therapy. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment. Wednesday, September 11th At 7:26 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical call in the 400 block of Los Altos Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated an elderly female having shortness of breath. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous therapy, oxygen therapy, and 12-lead cardiac monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment. Thursday, September 12th At 2:21 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 800 block of East Pamela Road. Fire crews arrived to find a female patient experiencing nausea and vomiting. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous therapy and 12-lead cardiac monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment. Friday, September 13th At 4:30 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical call in the 600 block of West Huntington Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel found an elderly male pulseless and apneic. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including bag-valve-mask ventilation, CPR with electrical shocks, and intravenous access with cardiac medications. Return of spontaneous circulation was achieved in the field and the patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment. Saturday, September 14th At 10:56 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a traffic accident at the intersection of North Baldwin Avenue and Colorado Boulevard. Fire crews arrived to find a 28-year-old motorcyclist with a wrist injury. The patient explained he suddenly felt and weak and dizzy and opted to lay down his motorcycle. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring and splinting. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment. Volunteer Activity During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department had a total of 80 hours of volunteer services. Specifically, volunteers from the community donated their time to assist the Department with administrative, fire prevention, and miscellaneous duties. Training During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 498 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review. 9/11 Commemoration On September 11th, members of Arcadia’s Fire and Police Departments, along with Councilman Peter Amundson, and Henry Lo representing Assemblyman Ed Chau’s office, commemorated the 18th anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks. Fire personnel took turns reading the names of all the firefighters and police officers who made the ultimate sacrifice.
