Fire Department Weekly Report the week of November 28 - December 4, 2021

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of November 28 – December 4, 2021. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:

Sunday, November 28 At 5:21 p.m., Engine 107, Engine 41, Truck 37, Rescue Ambulance 106, and Battalion 105

responded to a report of an overturned vehicle at the intersection of Orange Grove Avenue and Baldwin Avenue. Upon arrival, there was one vehicle that was overturned and there were two patients who had self- extricated from the vehicle. Fire personnel did a full medical evaluation of the patients. Both patients denied transport to the hospital and remained on scene with Arcadia Police Department. Monday, November 29 At 4:12 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a reported person down. Fire crews arrived to find an 81-year-old female patient experiencing weakness and dizziness. Paramedics initiated advanced life support measures including a 12-lead electrocardiogram, blood glucose testing, and transportation to Arcadia Methodist Hospital. Tuesday, November 30 At 11:29 a.m., Engine 105 and Monrovia Engine 102 responded to a reported vehicle fire. Fire crews arrived to find a work truck with fire in the cargo area. The burning fuel was a leaking acetylene tank. The fire was quickly controlled, and a hazardous materials unit was dispatched to investigate the affected high pressure storage tank. The incident was safely resolved with no lasting environmental impact. Wednesday, December 1 At 9:31 p.m., Engine 105 and Monrovia Squad 101 responded to a medical assist in the 800 block of West Duarte Road, Monrovia. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 58- year-old male patient who was suffering from palpitations. The patient received advanced life support including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and blood glucose monitoring. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Thursday, December 2 At 12:26 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 400 block of West Huntington Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 72-year- old female patient who was experiencing shortness of breath. The patient received advanced life support including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, blood glucose monitoring, and breathing treatment. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Friday, December 3 At 10:12 a.m., Engine 105 responded to a report of a vegetation fire in the 2300 block of Florence Avenue. Upon arrival, there was a hedge on fire. Fire personnel utilized a hose line and Class A foam to extinguish the fire. Hand tools and a chainsaw were used to clear the brush and overhaul the area. The fire was contained to the area of origin.

Saturday, December 4 At 9:41 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a report of a two- vehicle traffic collision at the intersection of Baldwin Avenue and Duarte Road. Upon arrival, fire crews found a 62-year-old female patient with a complaint of head, neck, and chest pain. The patient received intravenous therapy, 12-lead electrocardiogram, and a full set of vital signs. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for an evaluation. The other involved parties were uninjured and remained on scene with Arcadia Police Department. Community Activity On Thursday, December 2, at approximately 6:00 p.m., Engine 105 was spotted with Santa Claus at Station 105, 710 South Santa Anita Avenue. Upon further investigation, Santa Claus needed and requested assistance from Arcadia firefighters with transport to a special tree-lighting ceremony in our city. His normal transport, reindeer and sleigh, had broken down. Fire crews happily obliged and delivered Santa Claus with lights and sirens to Arcadia Transit Plaza for the tree-lighting ceremony.

Training During the reporting period, Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 372 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre- Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
