Fire Department Weekly Report - the week of December 12 - 18 , 2021

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of December 12 – 18, 2021. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:

Sunday, December 12 At 8:50 p.m., Engine 105 and Engine 102 responded to a report of smoke in the 600 block of East Live Oak Avenue. Upon arrival, there was an odor of smoke and fire crews found a 3-foot by 3-foot area of brush that was burning around an encampment. Fire crews utilized fire extinguishers and hand tools to extinguish the fire. A thermal imaging camera was used to reaffirm that the area was fully extinguished. Monday, December 13 At 4:53 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the first block of Golden West Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 71-year- old male patient who was suffering from leg and ankle pain after a trip and fall. The patient received advanced life support including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and blood glucose monitoring. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Tuesday, December 14 At 7:41 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a flooded condition in the 1100 block of Fairview Avenue. Upon arrival, fire units found water flooding several garages after a sump pump failure. Fire personnel deployed several pumps and assisted occupants with water evacuation from the area. Occupants were advised to contact the property manager to repair the pumps and address the flooding condition. Fire personnel were able to pump most of the water out of the area and the incident was released to the occupants for mitigation.


Wednesday, December 15 At 4:03 p.m., Truck 105 and Rescue ambulance 105 responded to a report of a traffic collision in the 100 block of First Avenue. Upon arrival, there were two vehicles and one patient involved. The patient was a 75-year-old male with a complaint of non-cardiac chest pain. Fire personnel did a full medical evaluation that included vital signs, 12-lead electrocardiogram, intravenous therapy, and spinal immobilization. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Thursday, December 16 At 9:17 p.m., Battalion 105, Rescue Ambulance 106, and units from Sierra Madre and Pasadena Fire Departments responded to a medical incident in the 200 block of Grove Street in Sierra Madre. Upon arrival, there were three patients that were unconscious and unresponsive. Fire personnel performed CPR on all patients and medical therapies were used to help reverse the symptoms. All three patients were transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital.

Friday, December 17 At 8:48 a.m., Engine 107 and Engine 101 responded to a report of a vehicle fire on the west bound 210 Freeway. Upon arrival, there was one vehicle that had a fully involved engine compartment fire. Fire crews used a 1 3⁄4’ hose line with foam to extinguish the fire. A tow truck was requested through California Highway Patrol (CHP) dispatch and a CHP officer remained on scene with the driver of the vehicle.


Saturday, December 18 At 11:09 p.m., Truck 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the first block of Huntington Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 41-year-old female patient who was experiencing abdominal pain. The patient received advanced life support including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and blood glucose monitoring. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Training During the reporting period, Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 383 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre- Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
