Fire Department Weekly Report - September 26 – October 2, 2021

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of September 26 – October 2, 2021. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:

Sunday, September 26 At 9:07 p.m., Truck 105 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 200 block of Pamela Road. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated an 89-year-old male patient who was experiencing shortness of breath. The patient received advanced life support including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and glucose check. The patient was transported to San Gabriel Community Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Monday, September 27 At 1:32 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 1000 block of Ninth Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 40-year-old male patient who was suffering from a possible overdose. The patient received advanced life support including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and glucose check. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Tuesday, September 28 At 10:38 a.m., Engine 106, Rescue Ambulance 106, Truck 105, and Battalion 105 responded to a reported traffic collision with an occupant trapped at the intersection of El Monte Avenue and Norman Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find a two-car traffic collision involving multiple people. After surveying the scene for hazards and victims it was determined only one patient required extrication and medical treatment. The patient was categorized as requiring advanced life support and treatment and was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital.


Wednesday, September 29 At 2:00 p.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the first block of Hacienda Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 72-year-old male patient experiencing full body pain. The patient received advanced life support including 12-lead cardiac monitoring and glucose check. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Thursday, September 30 At 5:48 p.m., Truck 105 and Battalion 105 responded to a second alarm structure fire in the 800 block of Merrett Drive, Pasadena. The fire extended to multiple units and properties. Additional units were dispatched to assist with fire suppression, and quickly achieved knock down of the fire. Friday, October 1 At 3:09 a.m., Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 105, and Battalion 105 were dispatched to the 6000 block of Sultana Avenue under Automatic Aid to assist Los Angeles County Fire. Units were dispatched to a report of multiple structures fully involved in fire with multiple victims trapped. Fire crews arrived to handle fire attack, ventilation, and primary search functions. The fire was contained to initial structures involved and all occupants were cleared from the structures without incident.

Saturday, October 2 At 5:46 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 200 block of Santa Anita Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated an 81-year- old female patient who was experiencing weakness after syncope. The patient received advanced life support including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and blood glucose monitoring. The patient was transported to San Gabriel Community Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Strike Team Activity During the reporting period, Engine 106 continues to be deployed with an Arcadia Battalion Chief as a Strike Team Leader Trainee at the Windy Incident in the Sequoia National Forest as part of Strike Team 1204A. Their primary assignments have been structure protection and mop up operations. Additionally, a member of our department was deployed as a Fireline EMT providing medical support to a specific geographical area called a division at the Windy Incident.

Training During the reporting period, Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 295 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre- Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
