Fire Department Weekly Report - October 10 – 16, 2021

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of October 10 – 16, 2021. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:
Sunday, October 10 At 3:20 p.m., Engine 105 responded to a report of a person locked out of their residence in the 2300 block of Palm Circle. Upon arrival, the resident showed proper identification and the fire crew was able to gain access to the residence through a second-story window without causing any damage. Monday, October 11 At 10:36 a.m., Engine 105, Truck 105, Engine 106, and Battalion 105 responded to a hazardous material incident in the 100 block of East Duarte Road. Upon arrival, fire crews discovered a pool of fluid on the second story of a business. Fire crews shut down all HVAC units and electrical power to the business. Positive pressure ventilation was utilized to clear the atmosphere and a Los Angeles County Health hazardous material team was dispatched to evaluate the chemical. The business was shut down until the material was removed and there were no injuries associated with this incident. Tuesday, October 12 At 7:54 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to the intersection of Baldwin Avenue and Huntington Drive for a reported traffic collision. Fire crews arrived to find that an automobile had struck a 52-year-old female pedestrian which resulted in multiple traumatic injuries. Paramedics initiated advanced life support protocols including intravenous fluids, 12-lead electrocardiogram, and bandaging. The patient was quickly transported to the Trauma Center at Huntington Memorial Hospital for further treatment and care. Wednesday, October 13 At 11:09 a.m., Engine 105, Engine 107, Truck 105, and Battalion 105 responded to the 100 block of Alice Street for a report of smoke found in a structure. Fire crews quickly investigated and found a malfunctioning heating unit, and the issue was isolated and resolved. Thursday, October 14 At 4:12 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 400 block of West Duarte Road. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 76-year-old male patient experiencing uncontrollable bleeding above the left eye after a procedure. The patient received advanced life support including pressure dressing, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, glucose check, and intravenous access. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Friday, October 15 At 8:24 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist at the intersection of El Monte Avenue and Camino Real Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 15-year-old male patient complaining of knee pain after falling off a bicycle. The patient received basic life support including splint and ice pack. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
Saturday, October 16 At 9:21 p.m., Engine 105, Engine 106, Engine 107, Truck 105, Truck 101, Rescue Ambulance 105, and Battalion 105 responded to a reported structure fire in the 100 block of West Huntington Drive. Fire crews extinguished a kitchen fire from both the interior and the exterior of the structure. Fire Investigator 105 was dispatched to the scene and the fire remains under investigation at the time of this report. Training During the reporting period, Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 376 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre- Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
