Fire Department Weekly Report - March20- 26, 2022

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of March 20 – 26, 2022. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:

Sunday, March 20 At 9:17 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 200 block of Arcadia Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 63-year-old female patient who was suffering from internal bleeding and nausea. The patient received advanced life support including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access with fluids, and blood glucose monitoring. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Monday, March 21 At 1:18 p.m., Rescue Ambulance 105 responded with Monrovia Engine 102 to a medical assist in the 400 block of West Duarte Road. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 42- year-old female patient who was suffering from palpitations. The patient received advanced life support including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and glucose test. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Tuesday, March 22 At 2:06 p.m., Engine 106 responded to a report of a sheered fire hydrant in the 300 block of West Longden Avenue. Upon arrival, crews discovered a sheered fire hydrant with high-pressure water shooting over 20 feet in the air. The hydrant was damaged by a car that struck it and then left the scene.

Fire personnel utilized a fire hydrant shut-off key to shut off the supply valve. After the hazard was mitigated, Arcadia Public Works Department remained on scene to repair the fire hydrant.


Wednesday, March 23 At 3:23 p.m., Engine 105 responded to a reported vehicle fire in the 100 block of Woodruff Avenue. Firefighters arrived to find a full-size trash truck with a well-involved content fire. Due to fire growth and development, a decision was made to dump the load on the street to save the vehicle. The burning rubbish was then extinguished on the roadway. Fire personnel remained on scene for an extended period of time to ensure extinguishment and to coordinate the cleanup with the private vendor.


Thursday, March 24 At 11:30 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to the 1100 block of Okoboji Drive to assist Arcadia Police Department on scene. Fire crews arrived to find a young male that was agitated and combative. Paramedics initiated medical care and medications to provide care and safety for the individual. The patient was transported to San Gabriel Hospital for further care. Friday, March 25 At 5:03 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 700 block of West Camino Real Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated an 86-year-old female patient who was suffering from medical device malfunction. The patient received advanced life support including 12-lead cardiac monitoring and intravenous access with glucose test. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Saturday, March 26 At 9:50 a.m., Engine 106 responded to the 400 block of South Baldwin Avenue for a reported animal rescue. Firefighters arrived to find a small dog with one paw trapped in between two elevator steps. The elevator was shut down and the firefighters worked quickly to free the dog without causing any further injury. The dog was released to the owner for follow-up care. Training During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 443 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre- Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
