Fire Department Weekly Report - March 6 -12, 2022

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of March 6 – 12, 2022. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:

Sunday, March 6 At 8:59 a.m., Engine 106 responded to the intersection of Baldwin Avenue and Woodruff Avenue to investigate an electrical hazard. Firefighters arrived to find a recreational vehicle that had pulled up against a high voltage power pole with high voltage conduit running below grade. The vehicle against the high voltage conduit caused stress on the system. Firefighters cordoned off the area for safety and collaborated with Southern California Edison on how to safely remove the vehicle from the power pole. No damage occurred to the electrical components and no injuries were reported. Monday, March 7 At 3:12 p.m., Engine 106, Engine 107, Engine 105, Truck 105, with units from Monrovia Fire Department, responded to a vehicle fire on the 210 Freeway at Baldwin Avenue. Upon arrival, fire crews found a large commercial vehicle with fire involved within the engine area. Fire crews pulled two hose lines to aggressively extinguish the fire. Once the fire was extinguished, fire crews overhauled the vehicle, and the incident was released to California Highway Patrol for vehicle towing. The cause of fire was determined to be accidental.

Tuesday, March 8 At 9:48 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical incident in the 900 block of Santa Anita Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 78-year- old male patient who was suffering from head pain after falling. The patient received advanced life support including 12-lead cardiac monitoring and glucose test. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Wednesday, March 9 At 2:13 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a report of a medical incident in the 200 block of West Huntington Drive. Upon arrival, there was a 67-year-old male patient with a chief complaint of having multiple syncopal episodes. The patient received a full medical evaluation which included a 12-lead electrocardiogram, vital signs, and intravenous therapy. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for medical treatment.

Thursday, March 10 At 8:38 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a report of a two- vehicle traffic collision at the intersection of South Baldwin Avenue and Arcadia Avenue. Upon arrival, there were two vehicles with moderate damages and two patients that needed medical attention. Friday, March 11 At 9:54 a.m., Engine 105 responded to the 1500 block of Mayflower Avenue for a reported outdoor fire. Firefighters arrived to find a resident burning documents in a trash can in the rear yard. The fire was extinguished, and the resident was advised that burning things outside of an approved fire pit is illegal. Saturday, March 12 At 1:41 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a reported agitated person in the 100 block of Live Oak Avenue. Firefighters arrived to find a 37-year-old male patient stating that he wanted to hurt himself. Paramedics assessed and transported the patient to receive medical treatment for his safety and well-being. Training During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 391 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre- Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
