Fire Department Weekly Report: July 4- July 10, 2021

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of July 4 – 10, 2021. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:


Sunday, July 4 At 11:38 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 700 block of West Camino Real Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 99- year-old female patient who was experiencing leg pain. The patient received advanced life support including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and glucose check. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Monday, July 5 At 1:41 a.m., Truck 105, Engine 105, Engine 107, Rescue Ambulance 105, Battalion 105 with units from Monrovia Fire and Rescue responded to a structure fire in the 500 block of West Foothill Boulevard. Upon arrival, fire units found smoke coming from the roof of a two-story town home. Fire personnel aggressively extinguished the fire and contained it to the area of origin. In addition, fire crews searched for potential victims, protected exposures, ventilated the structure, and provided for firefighter safety. The cause of the incident is under investigation.


Tuesday, July 6 At 6:35 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a traffic collision at the intersection of Santa Anita Avenue and Colorado Boulevard. Upon arrival, fire personnel found two vehicles involved in the accident. The patients were assessed and received advanced life support including cervical spine assessment. One patient with neck and back pain was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Wednesday, July 7 At 6:48 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 100 block of Campus Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 91-year-old female patient experiencing chest pain. The patient received advanced life support including oxygen therapy, 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and medication therapy. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Thursday, July 8 At 4:08 p.m., Truck 105 and Monrovia Squad 102 responded to a reported person down at the intersection of Santa Anita and Camino Real Avenues. Fire crews arrived to find an 81-year-old female patient experiencing severe chest pain. Paramedics initiated advanced life support measures including a 12-lead electrocardiogram, blood glucose testing, oxygen therapy, intravenous access, and medication administration to relieve the pain. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further care and treatments. Friday, July 9 At 11:05 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 2300 block of Ivyland Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a six-month-old male patient who had been coughing for approximately 30 minutes. The patient received advanced life support including 12-lead cardiac monitoring and glucose check. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Saturday, July 10 At 7:40 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 400 block of Santa Anita Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel found an Arcadia police officer providing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to a 65-year-old male patient in full cardiac arrest (apneic and pulseless). The patient received advanced life support including continued CPR, intraosseous access, medication administration based on heart rhythm, glucose check, defibrillation, and oxygen therapy. Fire personnel were successful in resuscitating the patient, noting both spontaneous breathing and a return of a heartbeat. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Training During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 340 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre- Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
