Fire Department Weekly Report --January 30 – February 5, 2022

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of January 30 – February 5, 2022. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:

Sunday, January 30 At 4:42 a.m., Engine 105, Engine 106, Monrovia Engine 102, Truck 105, Truck 101, Rescue Ambulance 105, Rescue Ambulance 106, Los Angeles County Engine 47, Battalion 105, and Monrovia Battalion 10 responded to the 100 block of West Longden Avenue for a report of a structure fire. Fire crews arrived and reported a single-story residence with light smoke showing. Engine 105 was assigned to Fire Attack and utilized a hose line to extinguish the fire. Battalion 105 assumed Incident Command and Truck 105 was assigned to Ventilation Group. The fire was located in a crawl space under the residence and fire crews were able to contain the fire to the area of origin.

Monday, January 31 At 4:38 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 2400 block of El Capitan Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated an 88-year- old male patient who was experiencing an altered level of consciousness. The patient received advanced life support including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and blood glucose check. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.


Tuesday, February 1

At 5:42 p.m., Engine 106 and Pasadena Engine 32 responded to a report of a vehicle fire on the westbound 210 Freeway at Rosemead Boulevard. Upon arrival there was one car that was fully involved with fire. Fire personnel used a handline and foam to extinguish the fire. There were no injuries, and the fire was contained to the area of origin. California Highway Patrol remained on scene with the owner of the vehicle.

Wednesday, February 2 At 3:55 p.m., Engine 105, Engine 106, Los Angeles County Engine 169, and Rescue Ambulance 91 responded to a report of a brush fire at the intersection of Live Oak Avenue and Sixth Avenue. Upon arrival, fire crews found a 20’ by 10’ vegetation fire that was growing rapidly. Fire crews were able to deploy two hose lines to stop the spread of the fire. Fire crews utilized hand tools and foam to mop up the affected area. The fire was contained to a 20’ by 50’ area and Fire Investigator 105 was dispatched to the scene.

Thursday, February 3 At 12:01 p.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to the 1600 block of Perkins Drive. Firefighters arrived to find a 53-year-old female patient having difficulty breathing. Paramedics started advanced life support measures including breathing treatments, intravenous access, 12-lead electrocardiogram, and blood glucose testing. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further treatment and care.


Friday, February 4

At 4:00 p.m., Engine 107 responded to the 1700 block of Alta Oaks Drive for a reported water issue. Fire personnel arrived to find a water main failure with extensive damage and water flowing downhill. The area was cordoned off due to erosion and the possibility of the area collapsing. Fire personnel along with Arcadia Public Works Department quickly isolated the area by shutting down the water distribution valves, stopping further damage and allowing for the appropriate repairs to be made.



Saturday, February 5 At 7:49 p.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the first block of Highland Avenue, Sierra Madre. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated an 84-year-old male patient who was suffering from a chest pain after falling down the stairs. The patient received advanced life support including 12-lead cardiac monitoring and blood glucose monitoring. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Training During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 471 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre- Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
