Fire Department Weekly Report -January 23 – 29, 2022

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of January 23 – 29, 2022. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:

Sunday, January 23 At 8:38 a.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to the 400 block of Santa Clara Street for a 49-year-old female reported to be unconscious and unresponsive. Fire crews arrived to find the patient pulseless and not breathing. Fire crews initiated CPR, assisted with respirations, provided advanced life support measures including intravenous medications to counter a possible drug overdose, 12-lead electrocardiogram, and oxygenated respiratory therapies. The patient was revived and transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further care and follow-up treatment. Monday, January 24 At 7:14 p.m., Engine 106 and Truck 105 responded to an elevator rescue in the 400 block of South Baldwin Avenue. Upon arrival, fire units found an occupied elevator with occupants unable to exit. Fire personnel turned off the power to the elevator and used tools to open the elevator doors allowing all occupants to exit. All occupants were uninjured and required no additional assistance. The incident was released to mall security for follow-up. Tuesday, January 25 At 8:00 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the first block of Wistaria Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated an 83-year-old female patient who was experiencing general weakness and dizziness. The patient received advanced life support including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and blood glucose monitoring. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Wednesday, January 26 At 2:51 p.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a report of a two-car vehicle collision at the intersection of North Santa Anita Avenue and the 210 Freeway. Upon arrival, fire crews found one patient with a complaint of trauma to her right arm. Fire crews conducted a full medical evaluation of the patient which resulted in the patient denying transport to the hospital. All involved parties remained on scene with Arcadia Police Department. Thursday, January 27 At 2:35 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a reported person down in the 200 block of West Huntington Drive. Fire crews arrived to find a 38-year-old male patient who was distraught and communicating he was suffering from a drug overdose. Paramedics initiated advanced life support measures including a 12-lead electrocardiogram and intravenous fluids. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further care.

Friday, January 28

At 3:20 p.m., Engine 105 responded to a reported vehicle fire in the 300 block of West Huntington Drive. Fire personnel arrived to find a well-involved engine compartment fire. The fire was quickly extinguished with no fire extension to adjacent exposures.

Saturday, January 29 At 5:14 p.m., Truck 105 responded to a reported animal rescue in the 200 block of West Colorado Boulevard. Firefighters arrived to find a small dog that had slipped and fallen into a small flood control channel. Firefighters were able to access the flood control system to remove the dog. The dog suffered no injuries and was obviously relieved and excited to be reunited with his family.

Training During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 391 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre- Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
