Fire Department Weekly Report during the week of September 1 – September 7

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of September 1 – September 7, 2019. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:




Sunday, September 1st

At 4:49 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 100 block of East Huntington Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a 68-year-old female experiencing a syncopal episode. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access with fluid challenge, and blood glucose level monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Monday, September 2nd

At 5:24 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical call in the 600 block of South Baldwin Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find a 35-year-old female suffering a hypertensive episode with neuro deficit. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and blood glucose level monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Tuesday, September 3rd

At 8:57 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance responded to a medical assist in the 400 block of West Camino Real Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel found an elderly female in an altered level of consciousness. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous therapy, and blood glucose level monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Wednesday, September 4th

At 12:37 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical call in the 1000 block of West Duarte Road. Fire crews arrived to find an elderly male experiencing general weakness and hypotension. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access with fluid challenge, and blood glucose level monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Thursday, September 5th

At 8:05 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 00 block of East Huntington Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a 30-year- old male experiencing sudden weakness and dizziness. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including intravenous therapy and 12-lead cardiac monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Friday, September 6th

At 11:36 p.m., Engine 106 responded to an arcing wires call in the 400 block of Cambridge Drive. Fire crews arrived to find live electrical wires down and on top of hedges to the rear of the property and across multiple backyards. An additional Engine company responded to the scene while hose lines were pulled to mitigate a possible vegetation fire. Southern California Edison representatives arrived on scene and de- energized the wires rendering the location safe.




Saturday, September 7th

At 9:59 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 100 block of East Wistaria Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated an elderly female with blunt extremity pain after a fall. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene including 12-lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, medications, and blood glucose level monitoring. The patient was transported to Methodist Hospital of Southern California for further evaluation and treatment.

Volunteer Activity

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department had a total of 104 hours of volunteer services. Specifically, volunteers from the community donated their time to assist the Department with administrative, fire prevention, and miscellaneous duties.

Training

During the reporting period, the Arcadia Fire Department conducted a total of 452 hours of training. Some of the subjects covered were: Hose Evolutions, Ladder Evolutions, Ventilation Techniques, Salvage and Overhaul Techniques, Tiller Certification, Defensive Driving, Engine Company Equipment, Search and Rescue, Communications, EOC Operations, Records Management, Fire Suppression Tactics, Power Tools, Hand Tools, Truck Operations, Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic Continuing Education, Hazardous Materials, Lighting Operations, Rope Rescue, Incident Command, Pre-Incident Planning, Supervision and Management, and Standard Operating Guideline Review.
